Hblair, Rescke, more kids Baseball talk...

Had our first game of the regular season in Select baseball Mustang League on Monday night.

My son played center field and was the closing pitcher in the last inning. He showed alot of poise...his first batter was this BIG kid, fat, about 140 lbs., who crowded the plate. Gordon has been instructed by pitching coaches  to throw it inside to back the batter out a bit from the plate, or get him swinging at air. Well, the first pitch tips the bat and hits the kids wrist, and the ump gives him a base!  The next kid gets a single, then the 3rd kid Gordon walks. Now, bases loaded, no outs.  He glanced at me for a moment and I said "You know what to do..." and gave him a reasurring nod.

The next 12 pitches were 9 strikes and 3 balls. He mowed them down, with the last batter standing there like a statue looking at a strike that painted the outside corner of the plate!

His ball speed was unbelievable once he found the groove. I've never seen him throw so hard! I think he got pissed internally when he loaded the bases. I think I got something in my eyes at this point as they were watering pretty good....Proud papa!

Anyway, 1 hit, 1 walk, 1 batter hit by pitch, 3 strike outs, 0 runs for his 1 inning of work. He was 1 for 3 batting (single)

Here are some time elapse photos (1 sec apart) of his pitching, the last photo is Gordon at bat.  All the photos from Spring Training and Game 1 can be found at the website at the bottom of the page. Keep checking back for updates!

Incidently, Gordon's uniform comes thursday, thus the reason he doesn't have his Black Sox jersy on!

They don't have them pitching off a mound? We don't have real mounds but we have man made ones that allow them to be easily taken care of and moved off the field if we have a T-ball game following or preceding our kid pitch games. I will try to get some more pictures of Parrish's team in action.

No, I wish they did...that's how he practiced for 5 months at pitching mechanics lesson. :(

Thanks Curv, will pass on the WTG to Gordon. :)
