I don't know about the US, but there are many examples over here of the large, trans-national breweries buying out pub landlords to make them switch to being supplied by their brand, rather than the small, old-fashioned companies. Compared to fifty years ago, you're hard pressed to find a pub that sells 'real' ale. In fact, breweries that would produce this beer are labelled 'specialist', where once before they were very mainstream.
Less choice in my opinion.
