i have just purchased a saitek x52. is there a cure for having to re calibrate every time i turn my computer back on ? its irritating to have to do it every time.

This is odd to me, After setting up the stick in windows, I have only had to recalibrate in AH after patching, as the game seems to lose the calibration.  I haven't had any problems with it losing calibration in WinXP, or AH between patches.  
Did you use the driver disk that came with it, or download the new one from Saitek?  I am told the new one is junk.

Try the driver in this link, I use this one; it's the latest & I have no problems.

does windows loose the cal, or just the game? If just the game, Skuzzy said something about the joystick settings file needing to have the "read-only" box unchecked so the game can save the current settings
