CRT or LCD?
« on: May 08, 2006, 10:22:56 AM »
I get to buy a new monitor *does happy dance*

I've been looking at monitors for a while and as a web-designer have always thought that LCD was the way to go for my desktop. However, since I bought my Laptop and do most of my work on that, the need for an LCD for my desktop diminished.
A far as gaming is concerned, I've read that CRT is better than LCD. Is this true and if so, what is the best monitor to go for?

Thank you in advance.

I switched from a CRT to a Samsung 930b 19" LCD with an 8ms response time.  I wouldn't go back.  I'm a casual gamer, but have noticed no ghosting or other problems in AH2 or FPS games like HL2.  If you're used to running at a low resolution on a CRT, be aware that LCDs have an optimum high-res resolution that may tax your video card.

I like Trinitron-based flat-screen CRT's best.

I just picked up a 19", 8ms Sony SDM-S95AR LCD on sale at Frys.  I didn't expect to use it for AH but after trying it, my 19" crt is back running spreadsheets.  It's brighter, crisper, dead flat of course and faster with the proper .inf files installed. I didn't expect to be this happy with it.  I saw a bunch of LCD monitors on display and they all suffered in comparison with apparent ghosting, maybe it was caused by poor quality video feeds.
Easy in-game again.
