Laptop purchased
« on: May 08, 2006, 01:15:45 PM »
Since nobody answered my question in the hardware forum thought I'd ask here

Too late to ask if its any good or not as its bought already.

What I would like to know is will it run AH and if so how well?

Got it for my son as an early graduation present for him for college
Would like open a second AH account so he and I could fly together for a change instead of taking turnshttp://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=7727515&type=product&productCategoryId=cat01174&id=1140393564813

Far from being an expert but it looks like it will run it.

The portable is good aside the graphic chip which is integrated. It's not as bad as Intel GMA900 or 950 but far from great (roughly equal to a Radeon 9200).

On of the biggest problem you'll face with portable is high LCD resolution. You need a really fast graphic chipset to cope with those high resolution in 3D.

It will probably run, but you'll need to take everything down to the minimum and use a resolution which will make everything blurry on this LCD.

Maybe I'll just DL it and run it undermy account for a bit first to see what its like

I was basing the purchise against my own machine which while not perfect is tolerable for the moment.
My CPU is slower 1.7 to the laptops 1.8

Same amount of Ram but the graphics on the laptop is only 128 as opposed to my 256.
But to be honest I dindt notice all that big a difference when I made the move from 128 to 256 on my machine, SO Im hoping it is at least adequit

The machine runs pretty nice and I am noticing a huge difference between this one and the one my brother in law picked up for half the price with roughly the same CPU speed

Never tried a Turion....HP used to offer the full blown Athlons (not dual core) in their systems.  At HP.Com I noticed that everything on the high-end side is Intel (faster hard drives, faster/bigger video, etc )

I honestly dont know.  128mb ATI card seems apt and able, I just wouldnt crank the settings in AH up too high.  At least it has its own dedicated video memory, not the shared stuff with the system.

Otherwise, I dont think its a terrible system.
