Donut Question; Disconnect the zone?
« on: May 10, 2006, 07:26:35 PM »
Several suggestions about refining Donut's FT, and explanations of problems from the map designer, got me thinking:

Would it be possible to disconnect the donut bases from zone supply, so that when troops or ord went down the supply trains wouldnt refresh the damage?

The default down time for these base strats is supposed to be something like 2hrs, but in reality they come up much faster. Tweaks that limited resupply could reduce the pork hassle ("maintenence" runs every 15 minutes, some say) while helping preserve the melee.

Some possibilities:

* disconnect supply feeds in the map design, so there is no zone system for those 3 bases.

*If thats not possible, manually remove a bridge on the "track" so the train stalls and cannot go forward

*If every base needs a zone connection to be legal, could you create a separate set of zone factories that are locked in at 0%?

Here's the choices...

a) Everyone stop bombing fighter town.

b) When someone decides to put on their Fun Police badge and drop the hangars, everyone in FT move to intercept.

c) Petition and beg and holler to HT about changing the map to make the FHs in FT indestructible.  Then of course you'd have to make the VHs in TT invulnerable to ordnance, and I'm sure some die-hard CV freaks would start crying about a CV arena...  Where would it end?

d) Suck it up.

Does it suck?  Sure, for a couple minutes.  I personally love tank town, and it really bites my arse when someone drops the hangars.  No one built giant mountains around tank town, either.  The hangars go down all the time.  For the week (However long it was, God it felt like a long time) the FT map was up I spent some time there and never saw the hangars go down.  When I log on to the TT map, invariably the hangars go down within the next ten minutes.  What do we do?  Whine and moan on 200.  Debate on whether or not we should remove the ability to drop the hangars on that map?  No, why would we?  We suck it up.

I think D is the only answer you're likely to get.

If no sups went to the base then the town also would not be resuped and it would take 1 guy to get a goon over the hills to take town. Granted it may take a small mission to do this but the point is the town would not pop up by it's self.

Not to mention this would most likely go against HT's rules of building the map in some way....  In short from what i've read the maps must all abide by the same resup and capture rules as all others do. Maps are maps you can make some parts harder to capture IE TT/FT but the rules remain constant.
