cpu at 100%

this is a new one, for the last 2 weeks or so my cpu usage is at 100% when I play aces high. (which means I can't play) very choppy. I am getting real low ISP conn. around 41-42K? I even did a complete restore on not one computer but 2(I have a Dell 8400 and a XPS 400). Both max out at 100% cpu usage and stay there. I downloaded AHII 2072 onto a mem stick and used it to reload AHII after the restore Now when I mean restore I mean Hitting the F11 key at Dell logo (back to factory Specs) 8400 has a pentium 3.0gig cpu (hyperthreading OFF) and XPS has a 2.8gig Pentium D. ( using one side only) I've used the Geforce 6800 gt in both w/udated driver. I took sound card out during restore and am using integrated sound. when I am looking at the task mng. on desktop maxing out at 100%. and I right click on AHII in Tray, the cpu usage goes down to 2-7%.
I'm at a loss on this one don't even know where to begin after restoring the whole OS? Need help JOHN

8198  that's the driver i use for my nvidia card.  we have similar systems.  give it a try.

When Aces High II is running it is supposed to use 100% of the CPU.  DirectX is designed that way.  You should be concerned when Aces High II is using less than 98% of the CPU as that means something else is stealing CPU cycles away from the game.

By the way, restore points have a way of making a mess of DirectX and the drivers it uses.

Also note, the latest drivers from NVidia have some memory management issues.  Consider going back to the 82.xx series.

Try unchecking the preload options in the video settings of the game.  Never preload skins, unless you have move than 1.75GB of available RAM.  If you run with anti-aliasing enabled, consider switching to 512 (or smaller) maximum texture sizes as well.

Ok i've done those things. I think the real problem is my Net status? it is all over the place. sometimes it looks like a sawtooth pattern all the the way up and angle down to the centerline. __/I__/I__/I, like that. othertimes it is just all over the place? Like I said about 2 weeks ago the Dial up connections dropped to 40-42K at most for some reason? I used to get 46-48K and with a smooth centerline (really smallbumps) Netstatus. I've checked for Virus and spyware. I can surf the web it works fine there. a little slow but it works.

If your Variance is doing a saw-tooth pattern, then it is most likely spyware/malware programs.  Anti-virus software does not catch those programs.

Typically the sawtooth is caused by an application running, taking away from the game cycles.

In your "Internet Options" (Control Panel), check your "Security->Internet", if you have "ActiveX" enabled, then it is probably spyware as that is the primary delivery mechanism for spyware programs.

I had the exact same problem, in my case it was the "autofix" routine that compaq uses. It kept "restoring" my original video drivers...even though I'd swapped them out. Run a google for a program called "nasty file remover" it will search for all makes of video drivers....

If its not a video driver conflict its some other driver conflict....could be spyware or conflict with another program....but it sounds like exactly what I had.....
