The Luftwaffe in last ditch effort sent everything it had at the Allied forces along the front.  Air combat was heavy all day in the skies over Italy and many pilots did not return to base.

The smoke is still thick and fires still burning at airfields and depots close to the front lines.  The Allied forces were caught by surprise and were unable to stop wave after wave of aircraft.

Allied pilots eventually gained numbers on the enemy and were able to do score many kills.  The Luftwaffe has taken a terrible beating in the last few weeks and are all but finished.  The Allied airmen did not cruise to an easy victory, many were lost, many will carry the scars for the rest of their lives.

to the brave airmen on both sides.

Frame 3 Score

Allied -  kills 1075
            defense points - 107

TOTAL - 1182 points

Axis - kills 440
Attack points 731

Total - 1171

Even though the numbers were brutal, the Axis fought hard.  I want to thank the Axis players who showed up and put up a good fight.  It sucks when you are so severely outnumbered.  You did it well and with hardly any compaints.  !

Frame Summary

Allied

Frame 1 - 1361
Frame 2 - 1287
Frame 3 - 1182

Total - 3830 points

Axis

Frame 1 - 1324
Frame 2 - 882
Frame 3 - 1171

Total -  3377 points

I hope you enjoyed the event, if you have any suggestions for future FSO's send me a PM.  Now that this one is finished, I have to get cracking on one for August.

We were slotted to defend V76, V95,A28, and A68 with the 65th Fighter Squadron.  Three of those four bases were flat.  I think the LW snuck in under our defending AC.  I "think" A68 was the only base untouched by the raiding LW.

LW did very well considering the Allied had 50 more pilots.

Looking at the scores it seems the axis biggest problem was Frame 2.

If they had picked up another 400 points there the end result would have been almost too close to call.  So what happened in frame 2 that decimated them so badly?

Overall skernsk a well setup frame. But I have to admit I'm glad I wasn't axis this time. I do think overall that the Axis tend to be at a bit of a disadvantage when it comes to hitting targets. They simply don't have the planes to do it well. If you compare the ju-88 to the B26 its simply no contest. I think that needs to be looked at and perhaps adjusted for points wise.

all cya up next one.

I think it was maybe the JG44 bombing the whole line of Axis fields unmolested, with a great number of escorts and fighter sweeps?  That would be my guess :)

Like to thank all of the ALLIED Squads that turned out for Frame 3, your numbers made the differeance in the overall victory  <>.

I agree with Daddog during Frame 3 the AXIS aircraft that did the attacking during the first 15 minutes at the front line bases must have came in at low level and from a side route.  A great job of by passing the ALLIED side as I had placed almost 60 aircraft into that cooridor to block such an effort.   to the AXIS CO in Frame 3.

I want to thank all of the ALLIED CO's that responded very quickly to my redirection of the ALLIED squads as Frame 3 unfolded.  Without a doubt that saved the ALLIED side from losing.  For those of you that didn't see it the AXIS had no aircraft in the air at H+70.  Again thanks to all .

As for Frame 2 and Casper 1's post:  TheBug's plan was right on target (so to speak).  I commanded The Air Support Group (fighter escorts) and we arrived on station over the first target about 15 minutes ahead of the first bombers (JG 44).  That allowed enough time for us to deal with the AXIS aircraft over that target.  I agree also that JG44 did a great job of bombing.   and I had a chance to observe the BDA of JG 44 as they smashed each target and there were 5 bases that they hit.  Great job!

One last note on the what appeared to be a lopsided frame (AXIS vs. ALLIED).  Its not the overall stregth of a side that wins it is in how the combat power is massed.  The ALLIED side did a much better job of massing its forces at the critical points all throughout this event better than the AXIS did.  Remember 10 guys can kill a 100 if they they can fight the 100, one man at a time.

to the CM staff for a good event.  I can tell you that there are many flyers that really look forward to the "Friday Night Fights".  In fact they really dont fly any other time other than Friday Night!  Keep up the great work.

I guess as we were climbing out over the Weast coast ocean expecting the ju 88's to climb out over the sea, they took a direct coastal noe route.

This is backed up by the fact that 96Delta's group, who were lower, encountered a swarm of nme 110's and fighters. As well, when Doobs went down to investigate , he was chased by the ftrs, but on 2 occasions they disengaged when being drawn away from coast. They used 21 88's, I bet a good many of them used that tactic.

Had a blast, thanks all organisers.

I was part of that massive JU88 formation, Great fun, and nearly escaped on egress from the target area. Good fight over miles of Beach. When I thought I was out of the thick of it, I looked to see my Junkers was aflame.

Great fight.
There must also be a flyable computer available for Nefarious to do FSO. So he doesn't keep talking about it for eight and a half hours on Friday night!

Hey Nefarious, was that on the West coast or East coast?

Just curious, thanks.

We were on the East coast, the 347th were all in JU88's, with a large amount of pilots, It was probably 40+ JU88's.
