You'll get some useless junk mail after you sign up, but it's free. Their limit is 3 hit counters, and you can set it to count only hits or visits. Hits being anyone coming to the site, visits being the first time a person hits the place.

Many ISP's provide a cgi counter, mine does. Ask them.

I average about 3 bits of crap from them a month, so it's not too bad. Occasionally they'll throw something useful in, like telling you about a service outage due to upgrading servers. There's at least two dozen choices as far as counter looks, which is nice. With the sole exception of junk mail every so often, it's a pretty good service.
