I was recently in on  aflight of bombers (JU-88s) that was making a pass over our CV.  After diving in and shooting up the lead bomber, and scoring the kill on SmittyX, I looped back to go for the other two drones.  But lo and behold, they weren't there.  No credit for kill or crash, just simply gone.  Obviously suspecting that perhaps a disco had been encountered, I checked the roster and sure enough...smittyX no longer in the game.

After checking the scores, I see that a certain person who shall (in this paragraph remain nameless) has an inordinate number of discos (oddly enough in all categories).  So, ulitmately my question is, what is the point of playing the game if you are going to pull the plug on your 'puter every time you encounter an enemy?  And, is this the means by which a person has a better damage or kill per death?  If you don't have the advantage, just quit?

Curious, hmmmph.

No, it doesnt help the KPD or score....discos count as deaths, although the vast majority of those who practice this fine "art" don't realize it. (Another symptom of their general lameness).

In fairness, somtimes it happens legitimately and repeatedly with a bad connections....and those arent fun for the guy who lost his flight either.

It's likely that you would eventually get credit for the other 2 iff you waited long enough, and if you either were the closest enemy or had landed the most pings. I've heard that the kills show up to your credit even if the time limit for reconnect expires after you've landed, but I dont know that for sure.

As to the "why they do it"....probably comes down to wrapping some portion of their identity into game success. It's lame, its stupid, and the only people they might fool with it are the ones less sophisticated than themselves. But it is their $15.

If you'r particularly peeved, you can make a 200 statement like, "Hey disco king, just so you know...discos count as DEATHS on score!!" Even if the perp doesnt read it, the rest of the MA gets the message and the overall crime rate goes down....

I get discoed for no reason too many times.  I know if it wasnt for the discos my K/D would be alot higher than 3.5 but hey score doesnt matter to me as it does some to others.

However, Im not that kind of person that would pull the plug to make someone doesnt get the kill though.

I avoid discos when ever possible.  The music is just way to loud and most of them over charge for watered down drinks

It would seem our pal SmittyX has found a bug in the scoring system.  I went back and checked the scores and computed the numbers.  Here is the math....

dam./death+1=712,319.84222
Tot. Points = 18,164,155.97659
Sorties = 104
Landed = 72
Bails = 3
Ditches = 4
Deaths = 18
Discos = 7

18,164155.97659/712,319.84222 = 25.5
(minus the "+1") leaves a total of 24.5 deaths round up to 25 deaths.

So either the 3 bails and 4 ditches don't count as deaths or the Discos don't count as deaths.  In comparing others scores, ditches and bails are considered deaths.  Therefore, it would appear that the discos for SmittyX are not counted as a death for scoring purposes.

Bu that is just my take on this.  I could, and have been known to, be wrong.  If anyone can explain this abnormality to me, I am most interested to learn.

Thanks

Per help under scoring.

Kills per Death = TotalKills / ((Discos * 0.5) + Bails + Captures + Deaths + 1)

I always feel silly when he does that.

I suppose, though, that GUYS cant really be expected to read instructions, so I guess I'm OK on it.

Thank you for the clarification.

So, let me get this straight.  If you are going to die, pull the plug, then it is only half the cost.  Got it.  Thanks.

Or, to look at the other side of the coin....

If the only ISP in your area stinks, and you keep getting drops through no fault of your own, the penalty is only 1/2 death.

'Course, when it comes to lost perks thru disco, there is no mercy...

Very true.  And, I would like to think that that is exactly the case.  I would hate to think that some people are, in fact, intentionally disco-ing for the sole purpose of avoiding full deaths.  That is very lame and would be unfortunate for the spirit of the game / competition.

Respectfully,
