Why is it when I save a file as an AVI file it only captures the tower view for the length of the film?

I've run into this quite a few times recently. I don't know why it happens but it seems to happen when I'm grabbing a clip from a large film file.

I also noticed that if you viewed the film at a slower speed and forget to set the speed to 1:1 before trying to save to an AVI it can cause problems.

Also, with large film files I've had a problem where once you try to save an AVI and AHFilm starts the process sometimes your plane just continues on the path where you started saving to AVI. In other words, the flight data seems to get lost as soon as you try to save to AVI.

I don't know what the answer would be but I would try to save the edited clip again before you render it to AVI.

tip...

dont use the AH film viewer avi save setting. just download the free version of fraps at http://www.fraps.com and capture it with fraps instead, far better quality and easier to use. then just export the fraps avi files into your video editing software:aok

Thanks for the help guys

I got the free version of fraps going now.

My new prob is I will be in external view, properly zoomed, adjusted angles, etc....  Just how I want the shot to look, and then the view jumps to wherever I was looking from when I was actually playing/recorded it.  Probably from when I was jumping in my 3 spot (pintle gun) looking for cons.  Is that just kind of part of the deal, that you grab the film in little chunks cause the views will be bouncing around, or is there some option to turn off the view jumping.

Example:  I want a 10 sec clip of the tank looking from an external view, rear slightly raised so you can see the con that is pulling out of the trees straight ahead.  At 8 seconds of the 10 sec clip, the view will look 90 degrees (for about 1 second) to the right and then jumps back to straight ahead and I shoot the tank.  I want it to be a solid 10 seconds with out the view change.  Do I just have to splice this, or is there something I can do in the film viewer to make it stay in a locked view.

you probably have to splice it.
I noticed the same problem when messing around with an idea i had for a gv film.
Theres a box that you can click that says something like "play with recorded views". Problem is, recorded views seem to be the  ones you make in the film editer AND the ones recorded in game.
Good luck!

Thank you Speed

Yester day I found your post from a long time ago where you lined out step by step in getting avi files out of the editor, very helpful.  I was at a complete road block until I found that post.

Now I'm a little wowed at how long it's really gonna take to do one with having to splice 5-10 second clips, to get a true 15 sec segment.  Going to be very time consuming.

here's what I do,

Press play film but on the speed slider, slide it to the left to stop film rolling
Set your position or shot to where you want
Start fraps recording
Press the button in the middle of the slider to re role film.

Problem solved ( I cant remember if its a button, but youll see what i mean)
