A request as to flaps modelling in the game.....
« on: May 28, 2006, 09:29:51 AM »
THIS IS NOT ABOUT DISABLING THE AUTO-RETRACT FEATURE; not totally anyways, though i personally wouldn't mind seeing that done.

I know the flaps AUTO-RETRACT feature is there to simulate the pilot retracting flaps as the airspeed increases beyound that flap positions max operating speed.
So what I ask is can we have a MORE ACCURATE simulation of pilots actions?

1. In case of flap jammed while extended in combat, the other non damaged flaps DOES NOT autoretract and induce a rolling moment. Most if not all aircraft checklists will ask to set flap lever to nearest flap position (to prevent any sudden configuration changes in case the flap system recovers). The aircraft is ofcourse then limited to a lower operating speed and AH pilots can either fly slower then (will do anyway due to added drag) or risk damaging (losing) both flaps (in case of extreme dives).

2. In case one flap is totally damaged (breaks off) during combat (rare but possible) the other flap autoretracts and is maintained at zero position, simulating the pilot retracting flaps (as would be done in case of Flaps Unlocked).

Also when flaps are jammed in combat, would like to see the jammed flap as extended rather than broken off.

I agree on the second part. I've always HATED the fact that the flap **falls off the plane and floats away** when it's really just jammed.

I don't agree on the first part. For one, it's making the computer do things for me. AH does that enough already. I want to have some control. For another, you run into issues with speeding up past the point of safe deployment and that flap retracting etc. This, of course, is only opinion.
