Anyone recomend a good program for playing DVDs? Its for an older notebook with WindowsME or 95. Not too sure. Its for my buddy's computer, he's laid up in the hospital for a while with little entertainment. Its does have a DVD rom drive but its says it has no way of decoding DVDs.

Also, there isnt any internet access in there so I willl need to buy a program.

Googled ASUSDVD and got this site that list almost 80 software based players.

Be sure to virus scan anything you get.

How fast is the system?

The reason I ask is if the system is really slow, no amount of software decoding will help....the movies will skip, etc

WinDVD and others can be found on Google.  A search for "free dvd decoder" might yield some stuff.

However, if you have a stack of DVDs at home, pop a few into your other, DVD equipped computer...some include free players.  I know the Star Wars ones do, etc etc  I was able to get those to work ok.

I've had the best luck with PowerDVD, which came with my drive.

Good point LePaul, my P4 - 2.6 chokes on DVDs.  It's probably my cheap drive.

yeah, something's wrong there.  I used to watch DVDs just fine on a p3 800 mhz.

I use the windvd that came with my drive, but I've heard good things about the VLC player and media player classic.
