Elderly Woman Arrested in Air Rage Incident
TORONTO (Reuters) -

An 83-year-old woman has been charged with assault after a Canada 3000 transatlantic flight bound for Europe was diverted to St. John's, Newfoundland early Saturday morning.

The plane, en route from Toronto to Manchester, U.K., was forced to land after the woman allegedly assaulted two crew members, a spokesman for the Royal Newfoundland Constabulary said.

The woman was charged with causing a disturbance and two counts of assault. She appeared in court on Saturday, and was remanded for psychiatric assessment, police said. No plea was entered.

 

A 83 year old woman kicks all their asses, and forces them to abort a transAtlanic flight? Jeezus H. Christ. If I was on that flight and got delayed 6 hours for that, I'd have been irritated.

Why not just call Manchester, and tell them to have a police van waiting for a 83 year old woman tied to the aft jumpseat with her wig in her mouth and cane up her ass?

Next thing you know, the F/A's will be wanting hardship pay and what not.

Since December, 1985, Air Iran has undergone 11 hijacking attempts.  For three of them there's no data on the resolution.  For the remaining 8, it's "Hijackers subdued by crew(including gun-wielding security goons) or passengers"; of 16 hijackers listed as involved in those eight cases, 6 got killed outright.
--and this isn't even mentioning the notorious gunbattle they had some time ago.


As far as it goes, it's not been a great week for Canadian air carriers.  Check these out for Air Transat:

Bet it was condensation from the A/C.

It's possible an A/C pack had a bearing failure or something but it is FAR more likely that they were running the Air Cycle Machine at max cold through hot ductwork.

Seen it many, many times; spent about 8 years on the L-10 in two of the three seats. Read literally dozens of bulletins on it from the company.

Generally speaking, if you act like guests, you get treated like guests. If you act like a bunghole, I'll try to find the most remote airport in that corner of the world, land and leave you there to find your own way home.

But I do have a soft spot for old folks...  Like I said, I'd have to read more.

Good point about ditching her in Newfoundla'nd.  Hadn't thought about it in that way.  Still, I'd rather have scary armed security guards on the flights like any self-respecting Middle Eastern Airline.  Hell, I'll even settle for Syrian Arab Airlines!

Still, even given the fact that the newest ones are still 20 years old, the L1011 is for my passenger money, a great airplane; give me one of those over a DC 10 or Muddy Drawers 11 any day o' the week.
