Maybe its different with projection, but I honestly cant tell a difference in most planes between 1024 and 512.  Except less load that is.

Blow it up onto a 120" diagonal screen and you can see the differences. Most people out there are only playing on 21" to 17" monitors. But at 120" defects really stand out so the cleaner you can get the graphics the better.

oh but at 120" its so fun.... Hard to describe other than in a darkend room you take away all points of reference and you actually sorta get the sensation of flight. Ive already made a couple friends totally airsick lol.

High-Rez!
« Reply #19 on: June 07, 2006, 09:11:11 AM »
Thank you all for the feedback!
I adjusted the settings per evrybodys recommedations here!!
I big setting to make a different was the 85MhZ on the monitor!
I saw the frames shoot up to 101!!! but during a heavy battle it drops to
a average of 60-75 frames!!!

Question about the HIGH_REZ package! If I wanted to try AH without the HIGH_REZ would have I to download the regular package and re-install!
and How do you know whihc package you are using! Because I first had downloaded the regular package then I downloaded the HIgh-REZ pack???

Thanks again! Things getting better! Score going up!

I purchased the card from ebay and didnt get the disks with the card!
I was directed to sapphire web site and loaded the drivers and Catayst software from there??

I could be using incorrect drivers?

I did a search on the omega drivers you suggested!!
I found a site http://fileforum.betanews.com/detail/Radeon_Omega_Drivers/1086739971/1

Can you suggest a site with the omega drivers, since you also have the x800 and the settings you have?????

Thanks

To be honest I tried the Omega drivers with my X800 and wasnt impressed. I used them with an older ATI card I had at one time because they worked better but with the X800 its native drivers seem to work better. I dont think the omega drivers covered everything the X800 is capable of and did little justice to what it can really do.

I am now seem to be stablized around the 50-60 frame mark when in
heavy dogfights! but of course, if i can do better then I would like to try it!
I still really dont know if I am using the high-rez pack or do I just have the 1024 on the regular pack?
How can you tell?

I had the same setup as you bandit , the best driver i found was the 4.12 omega driver . I had posted a driver comparison awhile ago and tested  different catalyst drivers and found that the omega was better . I'll have to search for that old post .

Can you update the driver from the control pane - display and then the update driver option or do you have to completely remove the driver
as posted with the un-install routine from ATI??

Don't forget things like the AH video options detail sliders, the level of detail and the distance sliders. The further they are to the left, the more they will task your fps. The default is about 2/3 to the right. I'd put them 1/3 to the right or in the middle, for a good mix between fps and quality.

follow an unistall routine , and use driver cleaner  its the best way . here are the instructions from driver cleaner i never do #1, 6,or 7  thou

   ATI:
   1. Unplug nic card or modem from net or disconnect
   2. Remove ATI driver from add/remove programs then remove the control panel from add/remove programs
   3. Reboot into safe mode (F8 during boot up)
   4. On reboot into safe mode WinXP SP1/SP2 will auto detect and install drivers. Just let it do its thing. If you can cancel out of the auto install hardware wizard then skip the rest and run Driver Cleaner! If you can NOT cancel out of auto detect wizard then...
   5. Navigate to device manager->display adapter->uninstall and/or remove ATI display adapter but do not reboot
   6. Disable any AntiVirus Software (If you don't disable is than it could give trouble)
   7. Run Cab Cleaner (not needed, but recommended)
   8. Run Driver Cleaner
   9. Empty recycle bin and reboot
   10. Install the new drivers and control panel
