Anyone care to give a quick idiot proof explanation of what the terms 'sell short' and 'buy to cover' mean?

Someone else asked earlier in the thread, and I dont think it has been answered yet.

No clue what I'm doing, but I seem to be losing money at a steady rate.....just like real life :)

Selling short is what you do if you think a stock is falling, unlike trading long that means you take profit from a rising stock.

A short seller can borrow a stock and sell it, hoping that it will decrease in value so that they can buy it back at a lower price and keep the difference

-edit- to make sure nothing is lost in the translation i looked it up for you:

Thanks Nilsen,
Exactly what I was looking for, but was just to dumb to find apparently

Cal, I'll be happy if after the thirty days are up i still have the 100k after interest payments and stuff, profit would be a bonus, but I aint holdin my breath.
Youre up 12k or so right now, I wont get that kind of return until someone starts another war.

BTW, who manufactures small arms ammo for the US Army?
And who owns Colt Firearms?

I'm thinking the US and her allies are at war, whoever makes and supplies the 'consumable' stuff( ammo, weapons and components, boots, waterbottles, webbing, uniforms, etc) used by the western armies should be a pretty safe bet for the forseable future.
Probably unethical, immoral and plain old offensive to some, but hey, it's all proffitsssss.

Where would I go to research who the parent company supplying a certain good is?

Stupid thing cancelled my last order for some reason and my choice is up over 2% from when I put in the order.

I guess the oprice went up before they settled the trade and I didn't have enough cash.  Just how one is supposed to manage that through this site I have no idea.

Have you tried it here yet?

Good luck.  (See above for my experience with trying it...the site did the EXACT opposite of what I requested).
