advice for people having hardware issues
« on: June 11, 2006, 08:04:50 AM »
I haven't been playing AH in a long time, and after reading some of the posts here in the help section, I want to give some advice to everyone that needs help.

1. Read the online help to make sure you aren't missing something. (I know this is obvious but many of us don't have time for that rubbish lol)

2. Search and browse these forums. The search function doesn't always give  you what you want, so take some time, relax, grab a cup of coffee, and read postings that you many not think are related to your problem, but sometimes actually have a load of info.

3. Don't begin  your post with a threat that you will quit if your problem isn't fixed, or title your post with inflammatory comments, no matter how upset you are.

4. Don't always assume the game is causing the problem. Start out neutral, eliminate things one by one.

5. Remember something else. This IS a game. And it involves the cooperation of thousands of computers. Nothing is perfect in life. You can't expect everything to click 100% of the time. I find it amazing that we accept flaws in many aspects of life but when it comes to a $14.95/month game, we expect perfection.

Most problems in life are solved by taking a step back, and reviewing ALL the basics.. most of the time it is something you missed.

I cannot speak for this game in particular, but I spend my days troubleshooting advanced automated testing systems, and 99% of the time the problem is something so basic you laugh at it. But I've seen more than one young hotshot spend days looking for all the complicated solutions, when  all he had to do was turn on the switch. :)

Please, I don't mean to lecture.  I'm only trying to help those that are frustrated. Take a breath, read, don't let anger get in the way of common sense.

EDIT: I wanted to add one more thing. Even if you're not interested in joining a squad, visit the various squad sites. They have TONS of information including hints, tactics, maps, etc.

WOW !!!:O

a smart and well thought out post !!!You certainly don't belong on these boards !! LOL!!

Sorry :)  I agree 100%, if more people took the time to do a little hunting, or where a bit more civil, they would find their problems sovled much easier with a lot less stress.

I remember when I first started doing tech support, I had to answer phones.  The lead support tech taught us to start with the simplest solution first and work your way towards the complicated.  Usually we didnt get far down the list before the problem was fixed.  "Is it plugged in" sounds simple and almost insulting, but .......... I've seen it happen.

Good advice.  No one will take it, but good advice anyway.  :)
