Trackir 3 vs Trackir 4
« on: June 22, 2006, 06:40:27 AM »
Hey PPL

I am going to get myself TrackIR

TrackIR 4 PRO $260 AUD
TrackIR 3 PRO $200 AUD

The difference in cost is about $60, I can get TrackIR 3 locally but I would have to order TrackIR 4 from interstate and it will take about a week for it to arrive via kangaroo (yeah we are a backwater country).

I am not keen on purchasing from interstate because I cannot visit the store (Its a big fugging country) if there is a problem with the goods or the delivery...

TrackIR 3:PRO TrackIR 4
     + TrackIR 4:PRO   vs
Specs Vector Expansion TrackIR 3
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Cost In $ AUD $200 $260 + $60
DOF 6 Axis/degrees 6 Axis/degrees Same
Field of View 33 Degrees 46 Degrees + 13 Degrees
Sample Rate 120 120 Same
Response Time - 25% faster 25% faster
Resolution 358X290 716 x 290** + 100%**
**Using NaturalPoint’s Resolution
    Doubling Technology.

The difference between the two comes down to:
1) A small increase in the field of view
2) A 20% decrease in the response time
3) Twice the resolution..

NOTE: IR 4 is 25% faster so it works out to a 20% decrease in the actual response time

Unfortunately as I have never used TrackIR I have no idea if this would make a difference that I will notice.....

So if there is there anyone who has used both of them (IR 3 with vector and IR 4) can you please post your opinions

Thanks
Mussie

I have only used 3.
As I understand it, the better field of view on 4 allows the "eye" to be placed closer to your face. As it is now with 3, there needs to be at least 24" preferably 30" from your hat to the eye or else you run the chance of the reflectors dropping off the reflective area. When that happens your views go crazy.
