Computer Problem
« on: June 21, 2006, 03:34:36 PM »
Hello everyone. I am hoping someone can tell me what is happening and how I can fix this problem. I purchased a new computer when AH changed and I needed a newer video card in order to play. This is when my problem started. The problem is whenever I transmit vox my computer modem loses the connection...not all the time but most of the time. Seems to happen more often when there is alot of people playing and not so often when only 200 people or so on. Sometimes it happens when I'm just crusing along and not talking to anyone...and sap...off i go. Is this a modem problem? It is newer. I hate not being able to communicate with my squad members and usually go off on my own. So hopefully someone will know what's going on and how I can fix it. Thank you.

I think its a vid card driver problem. The driver that came with the card is probably old. Hit the manufacturers website and download/install the latest greatest driver for your card.

Also might want to check your graphic settings and sound settings. If you're pushing either too far the card can't handle it. Set your sound acceleration to 3/4 instead of full.

Thats about all I can think of atm.

Good luck.

Its possible that its modem. I do think that Voice is the first thing to go if there is a network problem. Skuzzy has a special forum for dealing with issues in that area.

Its possible that its also sound related.

In either case, full system specs are helpful. IE what motherboard, ram, cpu, video, sound, drivers etc.

Might be sound card and modem share some resources (like the IRQ) and the drivers are to stupid to battle it out.

Might help to shut off aditional stuff (parallel port, gameport, onboard sound) or put sound accel down. Might as well check if there is a newer driver for both of em.

Do you use onboard sound or soundcard?
What kind of soundcard?
What kind of joystick, how connected?
What kind of modem?
How is the modem connected to the computer?

Probably best if you generate a dxdiag output and mail it to skuzzy/post it. You can find how to do this in one of the stickies.

Actually this thread should be in technical support forum, i think thats also where yxou find how to generate the dxdiag.

if you are using a modem. im assuming you mean a 56k modem installed in a pci slot in ur computer. you might want to invest in a faster medium of internet connection such as cable or dsl. also u will need an ethernet adapter. im pretty sure you already know this lol. but i cant be sure :)
now since those old school modems do in fact often share the same interrupt requests (IRQ) and system resources, the two drivers maybe conflicting and the sound card could cut off your internet connectino. say when you transmit voice, this activates you sound card....and causes the interuption. if u have any IRQ's left which you probably do, you may want to go into your cmos or BIOS setup when you boot ur computer and assign different IRQ's for the two devices. you can also do this from the device manager. the device manager is found by right clicking the my computer icon and going into properties. then the hardware tab.
once you assign the differetn system resources. check in the device manager to see if there are any conflicting resources. this can cause problems like the one you are experiencing now. test aces high and if the problem persists it may not be a problem with ur modem. this is hard for me to imagine it being anything else when it only happens after you use VOX.
it could also have something to do with ur modem not being able the amount of data fast enough to keep a connection with HT servers. i dougbt this but it might be possible lol. say u send packets to AH server to stay connected and then u suddenly send all of your modems resources to send your VOX message and none to AH. but like i said this seems like bogus because in order to send the Damn VOX message you have to be connected to AH servers in the first place. So anywho. i would try re assigning your system resources (mainly your sound card and modem) obviously making sure they use different resources.) and if this doesnt work reply in the thread and ill check up in a day or tewo see if it does anything or not.. oh and u might want to see if you have all of your drivers installed. this will also be displayed in the device manager
