Geforce 5x PCI vs.
« on: June 27, 2006, 07:33:52 AM »
Just need some input from you guys. My problem is my current box is outdated as far as gaming goes. My MOBO is an Intel D845GLVA w/AMD 1.7Ghz, 512mem. This board does not have AGP / PCIe so im stuck with a "PCI" Geforce 5500 fx oc 256mb.

Im thinking of getting the Biostar Geforce 6100-M9 NVIDIA Socket 939 MicroATX Motherboard and an AMD Athlon 64 3200+ 2.0GHz OEM Processor. 512mem. This fits my budget.

Now my question: I do plan on getting a PCIe video card in the future for this mobo, but do you think or know if this onboard video will give me better performance than my current set up. Until the card is installed?

My current frame rates are around 30 at a abandon base, high alt by myself, and a unbareable 6 to 10 in just about any low alt fight. I stop all background progs and all sliders are at a min. My res is 800x600 with 128 tex. Disabled gun effects.. well eveything is set to lowest possible. Im using 61.v drivers for this card. I think its the PCI video thats killing me.

EDIT: Maybe I put this in the wrong place. Im moving this to Hardware and Software. MODS Please delete.

Thanks,
PuckIt

The 6100 is a very poor performer.  Probably no better than the 5500 you currently have.  At least the 5500 has dedicated video RAM, while the 6100 uses your onboard system RAM.

Wishfull thinking. Well I guess I need to look at other options.

Maybe:
Board with PCIe 16x, AMD Ath 2.0ghz, 1g ram.

Crucial Radeon X1600 XT 256MB PCI Express.
