Not that I know of. I'm kinda surprised at that, though. Thunderbird is kind of an icon.

Well I can do Thunderbird I guess, just looking for a B-17 to do after I get these 3 or so 109G6s done.

Not exactly a request, Fencer, more of a musing. Pick one you can really get passionate about -- that's the best way to ensure you do a good job

I think we need a 100th BG bird.  So either "Picadilly Lilly (I or II), or Mason and Dixon, or Heaven Sent are moving toward the top.

Thanks for the profiles everyone, I found the offical website for the 100th BG and it is a wonderful resource.

Let me finish this 109G6 I am working on then I am going to start a B-17.

Then I'd suggest Picadilly Lilly II.  The original Lilly was an F that Bernie Lay rode co-pilot on during the Regensburg/Schweinfurt raid, that was the inspiration for some of the combat sequences in Twelve O'Clock High.

Lilly II is a G model so she'd fit both for a 100th bird and that 12 O'Clock High connection.  Just my opinion of course :)

Well I decided to leave Piccadilly Lily for the future F model I am sure we will eventually get.

So I am going to do "Our Gal Sal" B-17G of the 351st Squadron of the 100th BG.  This plane completed over 130 missions and was just as famous as the original Piccadilly Lily.

She was the only survivor of the 351st BS to make it back to Thorpe Abbotts on March 6, 1944 out of 16 aircraft launched on the first Berlin raid.  10 AC were shot down with 4 others diverting to emergency fields in England and 1 to Sweden.

Guppy, in Keith Ferris's painting shown below he has white leading edges.  I cannot find at what date that was implemented.  Do you have any idea?

I bet Dan can fill us in on the details but late in the war they were removing the deicing boots.  The artist probably saw a photo of the plane before they had repainted the leading edges.  If you see a photo with black leading edges, the deicing boots are still installed.

Easycor, it depends on the plane. Ruby's Raiders was factory fresh in late '44, and it had deicing boots on. I think that's something you just have to look for on every B17 you skin, and do it case-by-case.

Right, the contracts called for deicing boots so that's what the factory delivered to the field where they were promptly removed by the crews.
