AMD Opteron 170
XP Pro SP2

Had to run AH2 in Win98/Win ME compatibility mode because of this issue.  Installed the patch and rebooted.  Took AH2 out of compatibility mode and NO MORE spinning clipboard.

Spent about 15 mins in game and didn't see any issues.  :aok

Spent between 2 and 3 hours last night. Lost 2 ME262's within 15 minutes due to a lucky Nik and a unfortunate midair with debris. No stutters, constant frame rates and varience was 0 right down the middle.

Also noticed no crashes with other legacy games such as Freespace 2 since the update.

Do I have to run a repair install if I upgrade from single core to dual core?  I'm not too keen on hacking in the multi-cpu HAL and right now it's listed as "ACPI Uniprocessor PC", so I'm wondering if I'll have to do the repair install bit, then add the AMD patches.

Anyone know?

Depends, it seems very hit or miss, either -

a) It will detect the dual core CPU and install the ACPI Multiprocessor HAL for you..

OR

b) You will have to manually change the HAL.

Then install the patch at the top of this thread.

If using XP you need SP2 installed.

Thanks.  I'll try just plunking it in and seeing what happens.  After a full backup of course...

Make sure your BIOS is up to a version that supports dual core CPU's.

Dell 1805, 2.16 Intel Dual Core Processor, XP Pro, ATI Video Card, 2GB Ram, 100 MB Hard Drive.  I'm getting the spinning clipboard phenomenon.

Is there any fix for it with the intel processor ?

Using AMD64 x2 Anthlon Dual core, WinXP and One Nvidia GeForce 7900 GTX.
Was using my optional Boot method "Use only one core '' for gaming.  That stopped the spinning clipboard.

Downloaded and installed the "NEW" AMDX2DUAL core OPTIMIZER Driver.

Now AH2 runs smooth and sweet 75 FPS will all sliders maxed using both cores.

Have another slot for a 2nd GTX video.
MoBo Could load a 2nd video 7900 and run in SLI, but I heard AH2 doesn't like SLI at present.....any new experience or news on this ?

Thanks, Ke367th, for the tip.

Specs:
AMD Athlon 64 X2  2.00Ghz 128kb primary cache, 512 2ndary cache
nVidia Geforce 7900 GTX  WinXP home.
Realtek AC'97 Audio sound card.
250 GB Seagate HD.
Comcast Hi-speed internet cable with Linksys cable router to 2 other computers.

Thanks,

Yup. Buy a sound card. Onboard sound uses your system RAM instead of its own, eats CPU timing, and in general has poorly written drivers. A sound card has all of these things on board, and hopefully has better written drivers. The Sound Blaster Audigy II series works great.

Thanks OOZ......

Is anyone having any luck running AH2 using 2 nVidia Geforce 7900 GTX video cards in SLI mode ?  (or any similar cards ?)

If it is possible, I should prolly buy a 2nd card soon in order to get an exact match.

As Krusty said, with SLI, you're paying 200% price for 105% performance with SLI. It's a huge cost overhead.

It has been working, though you need a custom file, if I remember right.

I have 2 7900 GTX's running SLI. Maybe not in AH, but the overhead in AH isn't so horrific that it would make any difference in frame rates. Works just fine in everything else.
