Udie, what do you expect from "the press". Frankly, I was amazed when ANTHRAX showed up in the offices of the major U.S. News Media such as ABC and NBC. I said to myself "don't the terrorists know Tom and Dan are on their(the terrorists) side???"

Just remember the "opinions" of the "news people" are just the opinions of the news people. They want to use their posistion to try and make everyone see their own point of view or at least create the illusion everyone agrees with them...

the "Press" et al; kinda remind me of a buncha kindergarten kids screaming for attention at the same time.

They seem to have no clue there is a diffrence between 'bad attention' and 'good attention'... something we cure the kindergarden kids of by the time they get to elementary school.

Don't worry about the 'Mirror'... in the simile above; they are pre-school.

Here the press is almost neutral. No "mainsteream" media source actually suppots bombings or is against them in their comments. General idea in the air is "Let's look how the yankees will handle this. Interesting how they will look in Afghanistan after we spent 10 years there"

TV shows Northern Alliance "offencives", together with bombed huts and wounded civilians. Some politicians are angry about the bombings (bonehead nationalists, who are always against America, and usual bunch of human-rights whiners), some support them 100% (mostly pro-Western "rights" who will support anything the US does, even if they'll bomb Moscow).

Noone ever thinks Russian troops should directly involve into the conflict. We already had enough of that.

I don't watch TV much, but that's my personal view on Russian media.

I notice that CNN is showing fewer and fewer flags. And more and more stories about civilian casualties. Well, more like the same stories, like the mistaken bombing of the northern alliance home, over and over.

Media has to understand: if you started this mess, then you have to go to the very end. USSR didn't go to the end. All goals that we had reached at the price or 13500 lifes was lost for no reason except showing the West that we surrendered in the cold war. The result is what we have now. If US will withdraw now - the result will be even worse.

For once Boroda, we are in complete agreement. I'm glad I started this thread, you guys are making me feel better that a lot of us agree on this. I've sinced a change in the media and frankly it scares me more than the anthrax. I pray that the public will see through their crap...

yep, gotta agree here. War to slow for the fast paced media and their Jerry Springer audience. Add to that the White House is telling them nothing, while dragging them to the carpet for reporting sensitive info ... all it will take is for a disaster - ever so small- or large # of US or even Afgan casualties and the Commie News Network (CNN) will be playing the ole peacenik tune, all the while blaming it on the Republicans and Bush... This will continue until the next terrorist attack on US soil or large attack on our troops (bio or low yield nuke), then out comes the flags, the "God Bless America" tune and the cycle continues ....
Something to be said against the 24/7 news channels. Too much creativity involved which is required to fill all the hours. I'll take 30 minutes of Walter Cronkite at supper over what we have now anyday ...

Eagler hit it square on the head. Too much time to fill and too little real news to fill it with. For real perspective and in-depth coverage read legitimate papers.

For shots of the latest action (useful coverage of breaking stories) or "infotainment" (much less useful) check out the news networks, but understand that most of the experts "aren't" and that much of the commentary is babble to fill airtime. Also, controversial positionings (a yell at each other environment between guest extrimists) turns many of the shows into a form of professional news wrestling that says little but provides a lot of zingers.

the Media lives off one simple fact..

Bad news.. makes for a good story.. would you sit down and watch CNN if all the did is come on every half hour and say "well, everything is going as plannes"..

NO!

so of course the wade through the myriads of success stories and good news and find the story of some afgan woman who had a miscarrage when a bomb exploded a mile away and frightened her.. then they spam that toejam over and over each time hinting.. and asking 'should the us be killing these people?" or some retarded toejam like that..

my favorite ones are all the interviews they do to the afgans who hasve the 'my house was hit by a bomb and me and my famaly had to leave, we are so poor oh god what will we do?"

sorry chum, but if a bomb hit your house.. you would be in many many pieces, as would your family.. try "a bomb landed down the street and scared the toejam out of us and we left".. why not say that? oh yea, its not bad enough news.. its not a good story... yea better go with the bomb hitting your house theme, the you maby get some sympathy from the mass of idiots who actually believe it.
