Partitions Or HDD's ?
« on: July 06, 2006, 03:39:34 AM »
Whats the best way for AH? Should I use two drives meaning 1 for AH and the other for regular PC stuff. Or, make two partitions for the drive I have? Or maybe another way. My MOBO has two IDE slots. 1 is for the DVD drives and the other is HDD. I not sure how sata and raid work, but it has that as well. System is:

P4 3.4 PRESSCOTT socket 478 cpu -800hmz bus hyperthreading, 1MB cache
ABIT IC7 MOBO
1 GB DDR433 PC3500 Dual Channel Memory
Maxtor 160 GB 7200rpm w/ 8MB cache
128 MB GeForce Fx5700 AGP
On board sound 6 channel, Realtek Ac97, I dont have a card for sound.
Intel PRO/1000 MT Ethernet
16X DVD+/-RW, DVD-ROM
DSL connection and Windows XP Pro.
Monitor is an old piece of junk, but im going to get a new one.

I am going to add video, sound and more ram soon.

Oh yes, Ty scottydawg, The Fugitive, Tumor, DAVENRINO, Krusty, and StarOfAfrica2 for helping me on my last post. Great stuff :aok

Partitions Or HDD's ?

I have a separate HD for gaming.  Different OS, different HD.  No worries about fragmented files and long seek times when the HD gets hit for info.  No worries about the firewall or the A/V or anything running in the background.  And when I boot up for internet surfing or whatever, I dont have to worry about whats disabled and whats enabled.

And YW.  :)

Hello Star, Oh me oh my, its been a rough couple of days installing hard drives. eek: I am wondering a few things still. Should I use the bay thing so I completely remove hard drive, or is cable select OK. I have to go to bios to pick which drive I use. Is this proper the procedure? What I'm worried about is one drives showing up on the other drive in My Computer and sending some bogus stuff to the drive I use for AH. Any tips will surly be appreciated, TY. Clutz.

Cable select should be fine on most modern drives.  Just make sure your regular HD is your C: drive and the Aces High drive is your D: drive.  Install from scratch and everything will be fine.  If you try to move your pre-existing Aces High install to the D: drive you'll have troubles.
