Lockheed Martin has given a tribute to the best multi-role fighter aircraft of its time (the P-38 in WWII) by naming the F-35 (Joint Strike Fighter) the Lightning II.

Kinda a moot point, but I hope they solved that compressability problem, and those Allison, I mean Rolls Royce timebomb engines.
