I think rpm serves as a pretty good role model for this kind of thing also; if you don't like the guy who represents you, do what you can to support the guy who is running against him.

If I remember correctly,  It was the republicans that sponsored and passed that law Lazs.
It was a dumb move that alowed the Telecoms to become big, and the politicians to become rich.

That does not solve the problem.  The person running against someone could be worse.  None of them are better.  They are all corrupt and driven by the dollar.

And even if they have good intentions.  Those intentions will be lost among those who want to protect the status quo.

Not at all.  I have been involved with politics for a very long time.  What you call 'cynical' is actually pretty realistic.  How much direct involvment with U.S. politics do you have under your belt Nash?  Or are you like most, and just a slave to what the press feeds you?

The problem with ignoring a cancer is the cancer just keeps getting worse.  Ignore it long enough and there is not enough good cell tissue left.  Once you get there, starting over is the only choice.

There just might be another revolution war yet if things keep going the way there are now.

That is not going to happen.  I will go far as to say it will *never* happen.  That would be too much work for no direct benefit.

Yeah, those revolutionaries 230 years ago really screwed things up.  It's taken us all this time to fix it and get to our current utopia.

Taxes?  Hmmmm I think I forgot about paying my Federal and State taxes...
I buy food, clothes and anything else and they add taxes to the reciept.
I buy a car and they impose taxes on it and the gas/oil and all that makes it run. They tax my dog and cats food... they don't work...lazy bastages.

I spent 20 years of my life in the Military to which every Month of those 20 years they taxed my pay. I'm retired Army...yep they tax the retirement pay also.

I just got laid off from work and yep... they taxed the hell outta my serverance package.  I guess they'll tax my unemployment also.

Now they say that I maybe lucky if I can collect Social Security when I turn 67... and if I make it that far they'll tax that also?

When I die and laid to rest, I'm sure they will tax the coffin I'm in and what ever else they can get off of a dead man.

So I believe I've paid enough taxes so far....

No Taxation without Representation!!!

They taxed my guns and ammo...  Still have em.

Time for a Free America!

Bet that gets you Liberals in a panty wad.

I wouldn't bet against your prediction of the telcos gaining complete control of the internet, Skuzzy. Their tentacles wrap around federal, state and local politicians. Their lobbying efforts to get state legislatures to ban localities from building out high speed/low cost internet access for areas not served, or poorly served or serviced by telcos has been something you can only shake your head at. The methods are transparent and blatently cynical, but they are winning the fight in area after area.

I think media conglomerates are complicit in it. They have the same mindest as the telcos and hope to partner with them to drive small media out of the internet content business to lock up the ad revenue. Eventually, the telcos will deliver most of big medias content, slowly and expensively. They are 'Microsofting' the internet industry.

I think they have reach critical mass. The momentum of their influence and power can no longer be stopped - government, the telcos and media conglomerates are all on the same page and willing to help each other achieve their goals.

- The telcos want to control the distribution revenue.

- The media wants to control the content revenue.

- The government wants to influence the content and have cooperative access to user data. They may not always know why they want it, or how they are going to use it - they just want it.

I admire the good fight and am appalled at the unfairness of it all, but I don't see any way to stop it. It simply isn't right or good because it is anti-innovative and anti-competitive.

E-mail them. It has the same effect and you get the same response.
