Crashing problem
« on: July 14, 2006, 10:22:16 AM »
In an effort to get the game to run better offline on my laptop, I experimented with the video settings. Now the game, film viewer, terrain editor and object editor won’t run (I get a windows error when it tries to start). I’ve tried removing and reinstalling the game, but no luck. I also tried deleting the registry directory and reinstalling the game, but still won’t work. Any ideas?

Thanks

First question that comes to mind is did you return the video settings to whatever they were previously?

I know with my old video card if I enabled AF I would get nasty reactions from Aces High.

I can't get the game to load so I am unable to put things back as they were.

Maybe you can force a specific setting on the video cards driver instead of having it at application preference?

To go back to default vid settings, just delete the video.cfg file in your settings folder. (But if you reinstalled the game, that shouldve done it anyway).

Did you change drivers or change any other vid card setting in Windows?

Removing the "video8.cfg" file from the Aces High II installation folder will allow you to get back to the video settings (default location C:\Program Files\HTC\Aces High II\settings).

Re-installing the game will not restore the video settings.  The files in the 'settings' folder are create post-installation and are not removed unless you physically navigate to that folder and remove them.

Hehe, thanks Skuzzy, i never knew/realised that. I installed/uninstalled AH many times now, but i always deleted the folder before installing fresh. Good to know the settings are not removed by uninstall.

Ah.  I was under the assumption you changed the video settings on your COMPUTER, not in the game.  Sorry.  :)

Thanks for the info Skuzzy. I checked that directory and there is only a freq.cfg file there.

I had previously deleted all the HTC files after uninstalling and then reinstalled. Still no dice.

The 91.xx drivers from NVidia have serious problems.

Check your DXDIAG PBear, when you had the 91.xx drivers loaded, this complaint in the DXDIAG output is noted, "Direct3D functionality not available."
