I am so glad my parents dissuaded me from joing the Marines right after high school.  Many of my friends did, and then 9-11 happened. But they didn't go to Afghanistan.  They were forced to invade Iraq.  They survived fortunately, mainly because the invasion was so much more successful than the occupation.

Its beyond my comprehension how any parent could let their kids enlist in the military nowadays and go to that hell hole called Iraq.  No WMDs, no ties to 9-11, just some scorching hot cities with alot of fanaticals wanting to kill anyone not supporting their religious sect/power.

Our soldiers have bravery, courage, all that stuff.  But the higher leadership is horrible.  Its analagous to having a corvette and the driver taking it off-road.

So to the Republicans, I say "Support the Troops".  I did, by voting against the man who sent them to the meat-grinder for no reason.

When you join the military.
You dont join up for a free education.
You dont join up only on the condition you fight where you want to fight.
you join up with the full understanding you might have to fight.
And fight where ever you are told to fight
For whatever reason you are told to fight
Be it an attack on the US.
To defend or protect,or  because it was in US intrests to do so (Iraq)
Or simply because its Tuesday.

I dont feel bad for these parents or the soldiers.
They knew what they were getting into

I do however feel enormously proud of the parents and soldeirs for doing so.

Maybe they would like some payback for the bombing of a barracks, the firing on US aircraft, and an attempt on a former presidents life (both directly traced to Saddamand All acts of war.)
An action gutless different former president refused to take.
Just like that same gutless former president could have prevented 9/11 if he just had the....guts to take and real action when the golden opportunity presented itself.

Just think. If someone had taken decicive action then instead of trying to win a world popularity contest.
9/11 would never have happened. Iraq would probably be less of a mess now.
Instead if got dumped on someone with the guts to do something. But not the vision on how to finish it.

they arent in Iraq for no reason. They may be there for a reason you dont like or cant appreciate. but they are there for a reason.
They are there because it was and is in the US intrests to be there.
A country doesnt have to be attacked to go to war.
Countries historically go to war not only because they were attacked but also  because it is in their intrests to do so.

New neocon censorship ploy.  When two threads have the same (politically inconvenient) topic, lock the one that's on the front page and leave the old one alone.
