Few changes could turn it into an early 1941, 72 sqn, Spit IIa -

Your choice.

Of course they flew F IX's, and also LF IXs -

http://www.rafweb.org/SqnMark072.htm

Also found this pic of a 72 sqn Ia, same codes as the previous one. Notice some kind of badge/art on the nose. This one is from the Battle of Britain.

Artwork could be the sqn badge, I'm not sure -

Got even better news, the Mk Ia reminded me of something -

Bullethead did a Spit Ia with the half black/white lowers and submitted it a long time ago.
Should be in the upcoming skinpack, and yup its a 72 Sqn one.

Should be the one in the pic from my previous post.

Since you are a 72 Squadron fan.  Got this from a friend who flew Spits with 266 during the B of B, then 72 Squadron as the RAF started the flights into France in 1941.  He ended up as a Service test pilot for Supermarine on the Spit XII among others before returning to Ops with 616 on Spit VIIs and then Meteors.

The patch is from his wartime stint with 72 Squadron
