It's better for US industry to stick to things they do well, and cars ain't one of them!

So I vote with my dollars to push US industry into areas where they can compete.

Not that I'm a fan of VW - blech!  But if some people need that "German Engineering" illusion of superiority so they can rationalize the fact that they got ripped off, I wish them luck.   :)

From what I was told by the salesman the 2002 TDI Jettas are made in Germany and Austria. Also the color is Tornado Red with beige leather interior and the GLS model.

I drove a Golf for years.  It was the funnest car to drive that I have ever been behind the wheel of.  It lasted without anything other than regular maint. for 200,000 miles, when I sold it.  It was made in Mexico.  Never even replaced the clutch.

I would love to own another VW, I don't think they are the finest cars, but bang for the buck and fun factored in, I don't think they can be beat.

PS whats the deal with diesel being more expensive than Gasoline in the states?

Talk about a rip off... Whats the fine for using the truck pumps?

You can use truck pumps legally but dont let them catch you using agricultural diesal. They can tell farm diesal becuase it has a different dye in it. IRS will definitely rip you a new one for that and I have seen diesal checkpoints once before in Texas.  By the way, I love and admire German cars and engineering too, but my favorite vehicle is the one I own and its about as American as it gets:  Ford F-250 superduty 4x4 with powerstroke diesal.  The only bad thing is I'll guarantee you that I dont get anywhere near the mileage of my dads Jetta TDI, but then again I didnt buy it for mileage. With 7.3 litres of diesal power thundering away under the hood who gives a fart about mileage anyway!   :D

Just bought a 2002 XTerra, V6 with a stick.  I love it.  Best 4x4 I've owned since my 89 Bronco.  I've already taken it offroad twice (notice I go off-road at least once a month, I didn't buy a SUV to use it as a damn station wagon  :rolleyes: ) It's smooth, has nice power and with the limited-slip rear end, will go anywhere (when I say anywhere, I mean if you know what you're doing  ;)).

BTW, I believe it was built in Tennesse   :D
