Macchi C202/205 need a graphic update
« on: July 24, 2006, 07:58:56 AM »
Really, the two need a graphic update (even the cockpit only). Everytime I take a 109 I cant help thinking how ugly are those, late 90's, 202/205 graphics ....  :(

I have flashbacks to TIE Fighter when I'm in the C2s

:rofl :lol

EDIT: This is a wishlist item for the Macchis, so I have to say it! "DTs for the Macchis!"

205 in reality was a spit killer.   Not here.

( And i mean Spit V ).

The terror of british pilots over malta.

The only problem, 205 was few.

Actually, the 202 was considered the equal of the spitV, not the 205. the 205 was better still.

They are very capable as-is, but I can't help wondering if they should be "better"

Then again, one has to consider they were mostly used against Hurricanes, P40s, and spitVs.

IMO, i think the c202 and c205's paint job most ugly.

but it seems yer talkin bout the actual "graphics"

and since i don't fly em, i can't really say anything about it,

then y am i posting?

cuz i have a question:D

does the C202 and C205 need a new cockpit?

cuz i have flown a few planes that could really use a new cockpit.
i.e. lack of stick 2d rudder petals, etc.

do the C202 and C205 suffer from sucky cockpits as well?

There are 3 generations of AH aircraft models.

If you flew the 109E before they redid it, you'd know what a Generation 1 looks like. The Macchi is also a generation 1. Flat, kind of ugly. The external shape is often mirrored, warped, stretched, duplicated, and all that nasty stuff that was good (at the time) but doesn't allow re-skinning. The Val is also a Generation 1 skin.

Then you have Generation 2 skins, which were the 109F-G-K before the update, and the P51 before the update. These skins might have had some external 3d reshaping (minor tweaks to improve the looks) but their texture quality was much improved. The bitmaps were better laid out, with little-to-no mirroring, stretching, etc, and were much more suitable for creating new skins on. I can't think of too many off the top of my head that still are generation 2. Most of these have been upgraded to Generation 3.

Generation 3 started with the Ki84, the T-34, and the B-24. These have much higher detail on the external 3D object, and all were redone from scratch. Along with better textures, the textures are mostly on one bitmap, instead of two. The previous generations split up the wings and fuselage, now all are combined on the same file (for several reasons I won't get into). These have moving sticks, rudders, and levers. They also are the best looking planes in the game. The "updated" planes people talk about are generation 3. These include P38s, P47s, P51s, all 109s, all 190s, all spitfires, b17 and b24 and ki84. I think that's all of them.

So basically, yes, the c2 needs to be redone, and badly :) (I mean it needs badly, not that it should be "redone badly"!). So do the US Navy planes, several bombers, and many early fighters. It will get done eventually. Gatt and I just want it moved to the front of the line, so to speak ;)

No 205 fought over Malta. Only C202 (and Re2001, and C200 ...). The first fought during and after Sicily invasion, often in mixed 202/205 squads. She was a good 1943 fighter indeed but far from the terror of the sky often depicted in many italian pilot's memories.

BTW, we need new cockpit and a/c graphics, did I say it?  :)

The B5N2 cockpit is pretty awful too.  I'm not saying it needs updating, because nobody flies it in the MA.  It's just ugly.
