Another war just began.

They are fighting there already in Kodori gorge.

Svans lived in complete isolation until 1920s, the only nation in Caucasus that never was conquered by anyone.

Kodori gorge leads to Abkhazia low-lands from Teberda mountain region through Klukhorski pass. In 1942 3 Soviet mountain infantry regiments were stationed there (in fact they consisted of ordinary infantry without mountain training or equipment). Their HQ in a village of Azhary was attacked by German Edelweiss mountain-jagers. Very few Germans survived it, and IIRC it was the only time Germans crossed Grand Caucasus and invaded Svanetia.

I have crossed Klukhorski pass and went down to Azhary in 1990 with my Father. Azhary was a peacefull and very nice village with hundreds of hikers and alpinists. Now local guys that played checkers and drank wine with us probably shoot at the invaders... This world sucks :(

Local militants already got a promise from Abhazian defence ministry that Abhazia will help them with military force. Russian peace-keepers not involved yet.

So - another war already began. Watch it.

Here is the Northern side of the Kodori gorge, lake Kluhor.

Lower the mountains are covered with thick forest. Swans mostly live in Alpian meadows.

Here is a typical landscape with a Svan tower:

The tower is a traditional Svan fortress/castle, they stand there for maybe 1000 years, each one for a family/clan, in case off attack they stay there with all their cattle.

But more importantly..........who cares?

Read the link, it explains the situation pretty well.

You've got the Georgians going through the gorge into a province that broke away from Georgia. The Russians don't want the Georgians stirring up a fight.

Seems like the dissolution of the old USSR gave a lot of folks breakaway ideas.
If ye love wealth better than liberty, the tranquility of servitude than the animated contest of freedom, go from us in peace. We ask not your counsels or arms. Crouch down and lick the hands which feed you. May your chains sit lightly upon you, and may posterity forget that you were our countrymen!

Not really. Alpine lakes quote commonly have that blueish tinge. I know a lot of the alpine lakes, heck even lakes at the foothills of the Southern Alps in NZ all have that blue tinge.  It comes from erosion of the rock. Its quite pretty, especially when you have low cloud and the blue of the lakes reflects onto the base of the clouds.
