Anybody have a telescope?

I have been contemplating getting a telescope.   Where I live it is away from city lights and I live on a farm in rural Kansas.    Was in a Discovery channel store a few weekends ago and looked at a couple of Meade scopes, something yada yada 90 and the other one yada yada 125 or so for model number with computer tracking, approx 750 and 1,000 dollars respectively for price.

If anybody uses one, what do you have and how much telescope does a person really need?  And what accessories?  I'm a noobie at this and was trying to get some opinions.  Thanks.

as a former telescope operator i can tell you with only the authority a professional can deliver:
depends on what you want to look at & if you want to photograph it.


the Nebraska Star party is in progress, maybe run out there & get some hands on info

I am looking for one with a buildt in blind/curtain remote. If it can learn codes too that would be great.




What do you mean by computer controlled? can you just punch in items in the sky on your puter and it turns the telescope in that direction? If so.. :cool: Can you also see whats on the telescope on your puter?
