What do you think of these songs?
« on: July 26, 2006, 09:24:57 AM »
not real great mixes, but something I have been playing with.

both of these were written before 2000, comprehension was written in 1998 and untilted in 1999/2000. comprehension I just re-did in reason, and am still playing with the arrangement. the original of both songs are still on 4-track. untilted was imported to acid pro from the 4-track then EQ'd a bit and the organ was added from reason.

anyway what do you think of them?

I can't hear a thing (tried winamp, wmp) ... I see the equalizer bars moving, but no sound. Other mp3s work fine on this puter.

wtf?

I'll tell ya, with that name and avatar I was totally expecting some shredding.

What did you record with? The mix is kinda low, Saint probably needs to turn it up.

LOL i know... but i never got good enough on guitar to "shred" that solo in untilted is about the best i got for writing my own solo's.

I mixed comprehension in Reason, and untilted in Acid Pro. though i did make untilted a *.wav and in Reason used the stereo maximizer to spread the sound out a bit.

they are a bit quiter in the overall than soem other songs, like i said they are rough mixes. i want to start over recording digitally some time in the future. just need to pick up some new strings (current ones are 3 years old on my guitars ROFL) and learn to play again. mostly i have been playing with a keyboard in reason though.

Sunking here's another, but it is not real well done. it's also such a blatant rip-off of an unnamed band that i could never really use it :lol (the title should give it away, never knew what to name it)

as before this is all from 5+ year old analog 4-track cassette's imported to my PC with an old soundblaster live from circa 2001

Mustaine didnt realize you did this type of thing.  Haven't had a chance to listen yet, but music arrangement is one of my hobbies and I'm just now getting into composition.  I downloaded a demo of FL Studio but I'm limited by not being able to save anything and no keyboard/piano:rofl .  If you've tried FL Studio how do you compare it to Reason...I've heard pretty good things about Reason as well.

haven't tried FL but reason is absolutely insaine how much you can do. there's a steep learning curve, but man it is nuts.

as for keyboard, i got some $90 thing with just a mod wheel and volume wheel and octave transposer (it's a 44 key) that hooks in USB with velocity sensitive keys. it works great. i highly recommend something like it for working in a studio software.

as far as arrangement, i am a total n00b. it gets so frustrating doing one thing, then trying another and nto knowing which is better :lol

the song above "comprehension" is just a "verse / chorus" thing, i havent been able to write a decent bridge that i like, but i think it sounds ok. the strings are a tough choice, part of me wants to add mroe to the main riff, but i hesitate because it may make the mix too overdone and too "full"

give it a listen and let me know. and to state the obvious again LOL i wrote and "arranged" it back in 1998, but just now have finally re-visited it with better technology than a 4-track, out of tune livingroom piano, and direct guitars lol

I'm trying to find an old recording of GuitarPort without using cakewalk or filtering. Here's what Guitarport can do.

The sound is dead on.

see if you can hear the edits, there's no way I can play that straight through yet.

I'll edit this post later if I can find a recording of how crappy guitarport sounded straight through my pc speakers.
