I've been interested in getting the Line 6 GuitarPort for quite a while now.  I figure if I can't play good I may as well sound good. :)

Anyways, do any of you have any experience with this?  I know DiabloTX (I think...?) has some, and I'd love to hear some opinions of it. So far all I've heard is good things.

If any of you do, I have a few questions to ask if you don't mind my doing so.

Yup.

Best $99 I ever spent on guitar gear, can't say enough about it.

I have the guitar port and used it for a couple years.  I then upgraded to the XT LIVE.

My only issue using the guitar port through the pc was the bass was always extremely high. I think it had to do with my Z530 speakers. I was meaning to upload a clip of the familiar sounds you can get with these toys.

I'd love to hear some soundclips if you have any.  No need to upload them just for me though.

That was one of my questions that you kind of answer Sunking, do the speakers you use really affect the sound very much or would a basic set of desktop speakers fit the bill?

Also, the built in effects:  Are they worth the time to try and tweak to get a decent sound or are they just rubbish?

If they are rubbish, can you run a few effects and the guitarport like with an amp, or does that completely ruin the sound?

The subwoofer really screwed up my sound. I have to play throufh headphones or through my stack now.

I really didnt play with the knobs much. I would use the website where people would upload sounds. I'd play those then tweak them the way I wanted so I didn't have to start from scratch and save time.

You can run pedals, but I never having all the expansion packs with all the pedals included in the program.

I'll upload a  wav of my butchering VanHalen when I get home. The tone is almost dead on.

they TOTALLY effect the sound of a guitar.

unless you are talking high-end professional moniters the best sound will come from real amplifier cabinets.

I posted some songs i did in another thread, the one, comprehension i mixed on my desktop with creative speakers and headphones. get it in a car and the mix is all fudged up. :(

So you're saying it would be best to run the sound out of a cab, eh.  Thats definately not bad if the guitarport is as good as they say it is.

Well, I am not disagreeing but I am using a good solid set of LabTech PC 2.1 speakers and with my subwoofer dialled back the tone is just amazing, esp. considering how inexpensive the software and port are.  There's just no better deal that I know of for just plugging into your PC and and practicing.  I've had a couple of emulator pedal boards and nothing even come close, at least to my ears, as the GP.

I bought a quality set of headphones. I also have one of the new SB FI sound cards. Running guitarport through pc speakers will change the lows so much it's terrible.

Alright.  Ive got a 1x12 cab that I think I may run it through.  I'll also probably pick up a decent set of headphones.

Thanks for all the input guys!

Vintage 100w Marshall lead head and vintage Marshall Celestion 4x12 cab. An OK guitar player with a great sound is way better than a great guitar player with an OK sound. This is my secret!  :aok I still record on an old sun mixing board from the 50's with a Tascam 1/2 inch tape 8 track analog recorder. I find the analog signals from this old board are so warm and sweat. They work like a blending brush to knock off sharp tones. Digital can never do this. It takes big old capacitors and minimum of internal transistor switching and analog tape to do this. Sorry guys, I guess u can tell I'm old school and just couldn't help my self from jumping in here on this one. :D I goof off with cake walk and fl studio on my pc. The singer in our band just bought an 8 track digital recorder with 8 separate track inputs. We haven't used it yet, but it should be fun and definitely easier to use than tape. We will see?:aok

I like the GNX4 personally United, but it might not be what you are looking for in the the Guitar Port.  I can record to it though, then transfer to my computer, over 80 effects, change cab model, amp model etc etc.
