Out of Freqency Problem
« on: July 21, 2006, 08:25:40 PM »
I recently tried to update my computer to better the game experience.  I purchased an nVidia card with 512MB ddr2 on board.  I have since found out that the card I got does not respond well to the game and in fact is a lousy card despite the high amount of ddr2 ram.

Took that card back and made a return and picked up the ATI Radeon 9550 (first card prior to nVidia mistake was an ATI 9250pro).  Upon trying to install the new card, completely crashed the system and all the video adapter drivers.  In fact had to completely reinstall the OS just to get the drivers back that I lost so that I could even boot the machine.

Now, I have the new card installed and used the provided driver software.  AH wont work.  I can log on, but then once I hit the tower, a few seconds later, the screen goes blank then I get an "Out of Frequency" error and color box on the monitor display.

Tried updating the driver software and reran AH... same result.
Tried downloading and installing old drivers (catalyst 4.12).... same result.

Any suggestions as to what will put me back in the game?

Please help

I can solve your problem in a Wave of a wand  muhahahaha

1st ive got the same card in the Mrs Roo's pc  ati 9550 256

Whats really happening is your drivers/ Game settings are running the monitor at to high a freq its not really the drivers fault .  so its the monitor not being capable of running at that hertz setting.

just deleate your video8.cfg file in the htc settings folder ..

For better drivers and running that card like a 9600pro ... the gpu is a 400mhz  and the ram is 333 ddr  you can clock it up to there with the omega's if nessesary but it does run ah fine at stock setting.

For win 2000/ xp

go here
http://www.omegadrivers.net/archive.php

scroll down  thru the archives  and download the
14.9MB         Radeon Omega Drivers 2.5.97a (Catalyst 4.12)     Windows 2000/XP

install these drivers and your card will  run just perfect

when you go into settings look for "show only hertz this monitor can display"  and set it accordingly

i can screen shot this if needed .

Didn't work.  Still receiving the "out of frequency" box on the monitor.  I can still hear the game sometimes in the background, but screen is dead.  I can press the 'windows' key and it will crash me back to the desktop where I can close AH.

Don't know what to do to fix the problem.

Thanks

Also make sure the proper INF file for your monitor is loaded.  Check the ATI Control Panel, under "Monitor" and make sure it is not using the "Default" or "Plug N Play" monitor type.

The name should be the name of your monitor.  If it is not, then improper frequencies could be used, depending on the game resolution you use.

I have installed the monitor driver for the Hanns-G 199D (19" LCD).  It is showing up in both the device manager, the video adapter, and the catalyst control program.

Now, instead of the getting the "out of frequency" box, I get the same box, but now says "no signal" and then the monitor goes into sleep mode.

I have removed the old drivers, run a driver cleaner.  I have removed and reinstalled the Omega drivers equivalent to the Catalyst 4.12.  After installing those drivers I still have the same problem.  They have been removed and reinstalled... same problem.

(I am sure it is something I am doing, but I seem to be going from bad to worse.LOL)

Thanks again, for any other suggestions... besides throwing the 'puter from the top of a 10 story building.:D

I don't know.  I don't play any other game.  However, I have foudn that when the catalyst is doing its demonstration of video capabilities, I do get the same monitor shut down after about 10 seconds of display.  Other than that, the monitor and the display seem perfect.

I have now spent the better part of a week tryingn to work out bugs and issues with the cards and drivers.  I have reloaded and removed the drivers the card and everythign else.  I am at my wits end as to thenext step.  I just can't get the game working again.   :cry

Disable any power management would be something to try.

Power management should be set to "off".

Couple of questions.  Is this a AGP card or PCI?  How old is the rest of the computer?

Some possibilities .............

1. Not enough power getting to the video card.  It runs but when you put a load on it there's not enough juice and it shuts down.  Thats hard to believe with a 9550, but anything is possible, especially with an old power supply that never was highly rated to start with.

2. Bad connection in the video card slot.  Take the card out and check the contacts for anything odd or any dust bunnies that might have gotten stuck there, then look in the slot itself and check for them also.  Once you have done that, and you reinsert the card, MAKE SURE IT IS ALL THE WAY IN!  That used to be a fairly common problem with video cards, not having it inserted 100% in the slot.

3. Bad video card.  There could just be a problem with the card itself.  A bad solder job, the 3D stuff kicks in, and something shorts when the extra current starts running.

I think your original "out of frequency" error was a driver problem or setting problem that you fixed already.  This is something else.

Hey Pig.. I mean Lawman :rofl  I had a simular problem when I installed my video card, but mine was more of a fight between the card, and the onboard video. I know it sounds as simple as disableing the onboard. That was not my case. It was win xp, and the two monitor thing. I dont have two monitors, but XP still thinks I do. I would get a sig loss on boot up after login screen of XP. Most likley not your problem, but it may be a last resort to look at.

I guess the way to see if its even close to the same prob is to look in the settings, and see if it shows two monitors it may be trying to switch modes in the game.

This may not be your fix, but hey you never know. Its just somthing else to look at.

Hope ya get it going again. Have not seen you up in a while.

Good Luck,
Pig.. I mean PuckIt

I can't wait to get back up again.  But I can't seem to get the problem fixed.  I will keep trying and appreciate any suggestions to look at.  I am out of ideas and am resorting to re-doing things I have already done to see fi makes a difference the second (or third or fourth) time around.:cry

Hey Lawman.. I was thinking about this yesterday. Did you do a TRUE format or just reinstall the OS? I think at this point that may be an option if you can stand to lose all your data. I hate a format, but somtimes that all we got left.

I still for some reason think your old drivers for the other card are there somwhere causing problems. If nothing else I would be happy to stop by your place, and see if we can get it going. :furious

Oh yeah dont forget the beer. Two drunk cops working on a pc.... what could go wrong :huh
