My suggestion is to pull your sight through the target and not guess where it'll be. By pulling the sight through (from behind the tail, through beyond the nose) it places you much closer to the enemy aircraft's line of flight. Remember to ease off the back pressure (unload G) when you shoot.

Practice offline on the drones, then practice in the TA a bit too.
