Your new Conroe must be keeping you away from this thread.

It's either so much fun... or it's driving you nuts. :)

Which is it?
Easy in-game again.

Quite the observation, hehehe

Considering all the rave reviews on newegg, I'm guessing he's having too much fun. Either that or that pesky thing... whatsitcalled-- work! Yes... what I'm supposed to be doing now (*checks over shoulder quickly*)

Skuzzy,

Is it true that the entire Aces HIGH game is being hosted on your conroe PC now?

I got a Conroe 2.4. It overclocked to 3.0 without any special tweaking and runs cool and stable. It wouldn't boot with the multiplier increased from 9 to 10 but it's happy with the FSB at 1300.

Motherboard: ASUS P5WDH
CPU: Intel E6600
RAM: 2GB of PC6400 DDR2-800 Corsair RAM
Video Card:  Radeon X1900XT 512MB

With V-synch on I get a nice solid 60 FPS out of it.  :)

With the vid card set for performance, the AH graphics sliders on default, 1600x1200 resolution and 1024 textures, the low fps over forests is 190 and the high so far looking up is 617. With the graphics sliders on max it has dropped to 98 over forests.

I haven't tried it at lower resolutions yet.

It'll be interesting to see how high Skuzzy can OC the 2.93

My basic 3D Mark score is 6202.

With these dual core CPUs now, is it still necessary to worry so much about services running in the background etc or is it becoming less and less important?

You still want to worry a little, but if you have a conroe, you don't have to worry "as much".

I just fear how many crappy processes they're going to jam onto PCs now that they have the conroe to run 'em all! *shudder*

Plus once Windows Vista is out you'll need every last transistor on a conroe just to run the OS, so then you'll have to worry about the background processes again. Until Vista, relax, and enjoy :)

Just wait til HalfLife3 or Doom 6 shows up for Vista-Only PCs... Eh? What if AH3 goes Vista-Only? Eh? Eh??? THEN you'll get it.
