Switching from fighter to gunner
« on: August 10, 2006, 10:26:39 AM »
How do you switch to the gunner of a bomber when you are in a fighter nearby when they ask a gunner?

Thanks

Switching from fighter to gunner

If you are currently piloting, driving or boating, you can not become a gunner for someone else's airplane (vehicle or boat) unless you exit flight first.  Then all you need to do is right click on their name in the roster list and select join.  Then use the numbers keys above the letter keys to select the different gunner positions.  You can also just type ".join name" command in the text buffer instead of bringing up the roster and right clicking.
Time's fun when you're having flies.

Technically you can't immediately switch from a fighter plane to someone else's bomber to gun. You have to 'join' their plane and to join someone you have to be on the ground in the Tower, Hanger, or O'Club. In other words you can't be in anything and join someone else's ride.
If they are asking, feel free to send a join request but if they didn't ask first be polite and ask if anyone needs a gunner.
Worst thing to do is just send random join commands to anyone on the roster. You wont make any friends that way and may make a few enemies.
The popup a join request sends can get a person killed if they are in the middle of a fight.
You can join in one of three ways (1) the dot join gameID command, (2) using the 'JOIN' box located in the Hanger, and (3) by higlighting a person's gameID on the roster, right mouse clicking for the menu, and then using the join command through that menu.
Then of course the numbers at the top of the keyboard are the default gun positions starting at 2 and going up. The available gun mounts in the plane of course determine which numbers correspond to which gun position.

Edit- I typed to slow and Kermit is correct.
