========Riders on the Storm========
The summer of 1943 in Europe was a waiting time. Operation Husky, the invasion of Sicily, was underway, and the Russians were slowly beating the Germans on the eastern front, but there wasn't much that could be done in Western Europe. In anticipation of future invasion possibilities and to keep pressure on the Luftwaffe in Western Europe Allied medium bombers, escorted by Spitfires, flew countless Ramrod missions. Canadian Spitfire squadrons, now mostly armed with the potent Spitfire IX, were tasked with escorting American B-26 Marauder medium bombers over France, Holland and Belgium to destroy specific targets, and, it was hoped, to entice the Luftwaffe up to battle and destroy it. If they didn't come up to fight, well the Allies still got a successful bomber raid out of it. Most Ramrods were pieces of cake as the Luftwaffe often did not try to interfere with the Ramrods, but some weren't.
"Never tell people how to do things. Tell them what to do and they will surprise you with their ingenuity."
— George Patton

Why are you using the mid-1942 Merlin 61 powered Spitfire F.Mk IX (300 built) for this?

The Merlin 66 powered Spitfire LF.Mk VIII is much closer to the Merlin 66 powered Spitfire LF.Mk IXs being used in those raids.  The same is true of the Spitfire Mk XVI, though it has the wrong gun package and clipped wings weren't common yet.

Karnak, the Spit IXs were great and it was a one-sided affair from what we could tell in the Spit IXs.  I had a ball, and I didn't shoot anybody down.  It did suck me into the cockpit however as it was 1943 out of Tangmere for me and that made it well worth the flight.

I'm not positive the LW guys had as much fun.

Axis had fun as well Guppy :)

Once we found the allied formation I directed the axis to combine their assault.  However the allied escorts did their job very well in keeping us busy.  A job well done by you guys and gals.

Next time!

Sounds like it was a fun one.

My PC is...out of action...for a bit.  Heat wave killed my RAID card.  I would like to be able to get back into AH a bit.  Hopefully I'll have a working PC soon.  For now I am stuck on a G4 powered Macintosh....

Then there is the time issue....
