Are you looking to get something ready-made or do you intend to homebrew it?

Price range? Amd 64 stuff is really cheap now , but that is because the new intel conroe is out . Conroe is the way to go if you can afford it .

This is what I bought a few days ago. Im very happy with its performance and the price was bearable mid range.

AMD Athlon 64 3700 (2,2 GHz)
Asus A8N E Motherboard (939 socket)
2 x 1024 MB RAM
NVidia GeForce 9600GT - 256 MB (PCIe)

(PS: running AH full detail and max res)
21 is only half the truth.

If i were you i would pick one of these cpu's to start with  that fits your price range . Conroe is really the way to go for performance .

The system in my sig can be bought cheap now , it handles everything i throw at it without issue, But i would still like to get my hands on a Conroe .

What's your total budget? Without that you will get a million possible answers. What's cheap to some folks is expensive to others. Post your budget including whether you need a monitor and you will get better answers.

For some ideas see the Extreme Tech Build It site. They build example systems to fit different budgets.
