True 16:10 and 16:9 aspect ratio support
« on: August 28, 2006, 09:45:16 AM »
I would like to see AH get true support for the 16:10 and 16:9 aspect ratio monitors that are out there now.

Right now you can set those resolutions, but you lose the top and bottom of the screen, which makes it noticiably harder to fly and fight as some controls are no longer visible.

Instead of clipping the top and bottom of the screen off, I would like to see more added on to the sides as Half Life 2 and World of Warcraft do when displayer on 16:10 and 16:9 aspect ratio screens.

Karnak: HL does not use a 90deg FOV, so if you start with a smaller FOV, adjust aspect ratio as we do, the zoom out slightly, it works exatly like HL does.

I understand that in AH (and in other games) you don't gain a wider FOV in 16:10/9 but you lose top/bottom area. Is there a way to change that? Maybe 16:10/9 could have an FOV wider then 90 dgrees in order to not lose the top/bottom area?

In all fairness it's not that big of a deal especially with track IR and AH's head postions etc...

Hmmmm.

HL2 and WoW both have settings that added display to the sides rather than clipping display from the top and bottom.  That is what it looks like to me in any case.

I do see what you are saying about those games starting from what would be the "zoomed in" view in AH, but not being able to see your instruments at a glance and having blind gaps between views is a bit of an issue.

Ah well.

Thanks for the fast reply.
