Tha C-Media sound chip is going to cause a lot of stability problems.  The drivers for it are the worst I have ever seen for a DirectX sound device.

For framerates, you're definately slowed down by the cpu.  I think the x1600 video card isn't terribly bad, but the cpu is less than half as fast as today's mid-range cpus.

If you can't afford a system upgrade, you will simply have to adjust the video settings sliders down and accept the lower image quality.  Use the smaller texture sizes, run at 1024x768, and run the sliders down low.

The problem with upgrading your system is that although your video card isn't terrible, upgrading the cpu/mobo to the latest technology would require you to get a new vid card.  And upgrading to a cpu/mobo that has an AGP slot will be spending money on a fairly old technology.

You might consider getting an inexpensive Athlon64 on a motherboard that has an AGP slot, so you can keep using your video card.  You should also be able to re-use your memory (your system uses DDR memory, right?) so you could probably get a decent AH upgrade for right around $180 with just a cpu and motherboard.

Then you can save up for a full system refresh, because your next full system upgrade is going to need new EVERYTHING, motherboard, cpu, memory, vid card, etc.  But for right around $200 (or even less if you buy a cheap A64 mobo and low-end athlon64) you can probably  put off a full system upgrade for another year.

There are reasonably decent micro-ATX and ATX motherboards for socket939 athlon 64 that have decent integrated sound and network for around $80.   ASUS, MSI, ABIT all make cheap motherboards that would be suitable.  A socket 939 athlon 64 3200+ is also under $100.  Check newegg.com for decent prices, or if you're feeling brave, find a Fry's computer store and check out their cheapo A64 combos.  Just make sure you don't accidentally end up with a pci-e motherboard if you want to keep using your AGP video card.

If your memory is not DDR (usually listed as either DDR-133/166/200 or PC-2100, PC-2700, up to about PC-4000), then you're hosed and you might as well save your pennies until you can afford a complete system refresh.  Then go for whatever has the best price/performance within your budget.
Everyone I know, goes away, in the end.

Thanks Eagl
You really got me lined out on what options I have.  Now its just a matter of debating to myself and coming up with a choice.
Again thanks

TY SO MUCH FOR THAT QUOTE

i took out my sound card like a month ago and had been having BIG instability problems and the like so i may just have to get a new sound card

(yippe):D :D :)

anyways
how does your amd processor have MMX i thoght a lawsuit between amd and intel (one of many) made it so no other company could use MMX on their processors in fact on the wiki NO ONE knows what it stands for but 3d now typical amd competitor w/ MMX and they do the same thing so ya why would it have both?

how does your processor not have SSE? :O isnt that like a min reqierment for everything  i wish i had SSE4 (TNJ MNJ)

SSE all versions (1,2,3, and the new 4 aka Tejas new instructions or somtihn that starts w/ an M new instructions) Helps w/ floating point opperations in fact FLOPS (floating point operations) are important in Flight sims so im wondering how you can run AH2:confused:

MMX is also used as SSE instructions.. (it is the same thing as SSE but theres some VERY complicated  relations between registers and Cache
and how registers are accsesed how many there are ect)
i looked it up on the WIKI and 3D-NOW! is the same thing as MMX sooo..

I duno i was bored and reading around when i stumbled across it i had to ask somting :D

Good luck with your new computer :aok
