Well the hangar hardness was different back then right? It was probably a legit fear (just one that nobody ever pulled off).

No, it doesn't... I have enough perks to fly a Me262 endlessly in the arena, and worse yet, I have lost more than 20k perks changing my name in AH so many times. If someone hasn't, they could never worry about perks again...

They need to make perks reset on each billing cycle... until then, the perk system is a 'paper tiger'.
