If anyone who lives in texas is sick of the typical bs that is going on in politics here i suggest you check out Kinky Friedman.  I encourage all Texans to examine your choices this year and not vote a party ticket.  The next govenor of Texas is going to be in charge of a time of much change and turmoil. I would rather have a person like Kinky who i believe will be more interested in helping Texans than a  proffesional politician who wants to make the party happy so they can further there own careers.  Check out his website and make your own decision based on what you believe is right. The address is http://www.kinkyfriedman.com. I encourage all to vote because apathy is how the political problems grows and becomes out of control.

Perry bothers me, wouldnt matter if he was a democrate or republican.  I ran into Strayhorn one day when she was out trying to get signatures to get on the ballot as an independant.  She came to the bowling alley with one of her sons.  I didnt care for her before I met her and I like her even less after I talked to her for a few minutes.

I signed up for Kinky way back, get the regular emails and stuff.  Nothing made me happier than when Carol Keetan McClellan Rylander Strayhorn handed me her ballot petition and I declined to sign it and told her I already signed up with Kinky, I just loved the look on her face

An independent in this state will be eaten for lunch if elected for Governor.  You guys seem to think the Governor can actually make a difference.  To some degree, there is truth to it, but (BIG BUT) the Govenor and his/her ideas have to be supported by,....guess who?

Uh huh.  If the rest of the politicians are still D and R types, well, you can bet they will do whatever they can to destroy that little ole independent.

If you want to make a change that actually may account for something, you start at the bottom and work your way to the top.

I worked at a benefit concert that he hosted for Louisianna musicians and he seemed like a genuinely nice guy.   He walked right up and introduced himself.  Unfortunately, I don't think he has a chance of winning.  Atleast that is what I'm hearing.  It says on his website that he's 12% points behind Perry.  If that's the case, it's a lot closer than I would think, but then again polls are pretty meaningless aren't they?  Just depends on who you ask. I've been told this is mostly publicity for his books.  I hope not.

The problem with any independent, and it's not really their fault, but it seems that most people are so entrenched in either the democratic party or the repubilican party.  They will vote for the candidate for those parties no matter what.  I just hope he doesn't take away votes and cause Perry to get re-elected, and that is always the crux of the independent party.  There are enough people to get them on the ballot, but not enough to get them elected.  Sucks!

I am impressed with all the replies here they are very well thought out and worded.  First i would have to say thought that Kinky does not have to get elected to cause a change in politics.  If enough people vote for him it will force the other parties to wake up and recognize that a large group of voting citizens are unhappy with the current situation.  For example say this election the republican canidate gets 45 percent of the votes the democratic canditae gets 40 and Kinky gets 15 percent.  The democratic party has to relize that if they could get just 6 percent of the people who voted for Kinky to vote for the Demcrat then they would have won the election.  Now this is hypothetical and it could be the repulicans who end up on the losing side of this and have to examine what agendas to change to draw more voters to there side.  In effect Kinky could become a spoiler canidate that if not elected could change the face of texas politics in the future.

In response to Skuzzy i agree with most of what you are saying. the govenor is not the only problem.  We Texans need to evaluate all our choices on the ballot and vote out the carreer politicians who hold their parties interests above that of the people no matter what party they belong too.  I disagree that the govenor can have no real impact on state politics.  At the very least Kinky if elected could use his veto power to strike down bills that he believes are not in the best interest of the people of Texas.  Now i know that the state legislature can still overturn the veto but when that happens in any state it makes the news, and i believe that if that happened Kinky would make a big stink in the press.  Thus giving the people who don't have our best interests at heart to get alot of bad publicity and the one thing that politicians fear most is bad publicity.  Above all else vote. Apathy only emboldens the people who we are trying to get rid of.

I also don't want people to think that I believe voting Kinky will solve the problems overnight.  This is a problem that has grown over years and is not going to go away overnight.  This is just a begining and will take many years and votes to correct.

Oh........that Friedman guy who thinks he`s a comedian.
I saw the title, " Kinky Texan" and thought the rumors were starting up again.
Sheesh! The sheep was a pet. So I named her Hotstuff. Big deal.
Nevermind.
Democracy is two wolves deciding on what to eat. Freedom is a well armed sheep protesting the vote.

I think everyone here knows my position on Kinky. I believe he has an outside chance of actually winning if the voter turnout is big, but he has an uphill battle against the Texas republican machine. I'd love to see him in a debate with Perry.
