Seeking advice
« on: September 19, 2006, 08:36:10 AM »
Greetings!
I have just reactivated my subscription (again) as these new arenas look interesting and I'm anxious to get back to what I think is the best online combat game around.  I'm thinking about joining a squad but finding the right mix between "too serious" and "too lax" is a difficult task.  I thought maybe a post here would get things rolling.

I have been around this game since the beginning (what was that, 1998?) but have only been active for brief stints.  I was a member of a couple of squads but have spent most of my time as a rogue.  I'm an average to decent dogfighter (typically ~ 1.0-1.5 K/D) but also enjoy the occassional attack role.  What I'm looking for, I think, is a squad that enjoys working together as a team with a reasonably defined war strategy but isn't too serious about it all either.  I'd love to get around guys who are not only skilled but want to help the other  team members improve as well.  I'm not particularly interested in a squad that does a lot of GV missions or focuses on one aircraft type or one style of play.  I guess I'm looking for a fairly well rounded approach to the game.  I'd like to get better at "playing the overall game" as well as improve as a dogfighter, help others improve, and also do some attack missions and the occassional bomb run as well.

I'm very willing to just "hang out" for a while and not commit too quickly.  Besides, I'd much rather a squad "invite" me to join them because they see that I have something positive to offer them rather than just add numbers.  I hope I'm not sounding too vague here but I'm trying not to come across like I really know exactly what I'm looking for as I really don't.

Thank you for any advice you might have.  I have a couple of friends who are looking for something similar so I guess I'm somewhat asking on their behalf as well.

Hi HomeBoy

Your welcome to fly with us for a while and see what you think.

We fly for the Nights, and seem to mostly be in the Early War Arena right now. We are primarily a fighter squad, but have been known to delve into other areas on occation. We are a fairly loose outfit, but when we are on together we try to wing up for some fighter sweeps etc. Check us out at http://www.71sqn.co.uk/

Give us a shout on Ch 171 on vox.

Thank you for inviting me to come fly with you.  I enjoyed it.  I decided not to connect to your squad channel as I didn't want to disrupt you guys.  I may do that next time I see you.  You seem like a fine bunch of flyers.

Thanks again

Just a little addendum to my original post (as I'm getting back into AH, I'm recalling the fun parts I miss)...

I really enjoy being with the "old farts."  :) After all, I'm an old fart myself.  Don't get me wrong, I like having the young blood  around too and a good mix is probably ideal but I'm just recalling the last squad I was a part of a couple of years back.  I'm guessing the average age was like 52.  That was a blast.  I really miss that.  I'm hoping to get back to something like that again; a fairly small group of older guys with a couple of younger guys around, just to keep us on the straight and narrow  :), but respectful of the history of WW2, etc. and just serious enough that we're not just flying around aimlessly.  I guess what I'm looking for is the Old Fart Squadron!  If you know where they are, please let me know.  ;)

And, thanks for all the kind invites.  I'm looking forward to flying with you.

Homey,

Having just read what you said above, I suggest you really should look into what Ironblade mentioned.

(Hey! I flew Fighter Duel back in the day; I even have some serious 'war stories' about it.

Lol well heres the deal with "my" squad. Are CO is about 60 years old a lot of guys in there 50s and late 40s such as ushowler greyga pigpig gato <--CO chopsaw Ivantand so on now we do have a few "kids"Lilal minime3 and my self. Now lilal is the youngest he is only 12 but extreamly past his age in maturity minime is the wildest one in the group he is 14 "dosnt have a helium voice" and there is me Im 15 but have gotten my rank as squad leader threw lots of hard work and i quess u could say i dont act my age at all heck my CO didnt know i was 15 till i told him he thought i was 30:) but like i said the average age of r squad is about 40-50 some older some younger. like i said jsut stop by on a squad night and check us out when we r all going and working toghter. Now we fly toghter every night even though it isnt squad night we very rarly are not orginzed on squad night we will pull about 20 peaple and really roll over bases strats ext.
