problems with sound
« on: September 04, 2006, 06:35:02 PM »
Since I bought a headset with a mic attached some strange things happen when I record. I get every sound including the engines starting but no engine noise ???? I have been told I need to refigure my options in tools to change the headset from default but I would understand that if I captured no sound. The problem is like I say I get every sound except the engine... I even get every external othere engine and gunfire...Its real weird.

Go into your sound tab within AH, make sure yr engine isn't muted. It is an individual sound slider.

If you watch the films, you are OUSIDE and a bit away from your plane. Thats why you never hear your engine.

Im afraid all you can do is add the engine sound manually when aditing the film. Hunt for it in your game installment/Sounds/ folder. You should find the corresponding eng.wav file there.

Thanks schatzi, That makes sense what throws me though is that I have a clip I took in a lanc formation with a p51 escort and I got every sound perfectly ????????

Im on a wild guess here... but maybe what you heard was the external sound of the drones engine?

Well thats a good guess except..
1) I can hear the engines perfectly well while I am filming.
2) I can hear the engines start up and shut down plus every other noise including the drones overhead in the offline arena so I dont think distance is the problem.
3) I checked to see if anything was muted but if it had been I wouldnt here it while playing would I ????
4) I hear every sound perfectly while playing and filming its when I go to watch it that it cuts out the engine sound, The strange thing is that as I begin watching for a slit second the sound is ok then cuts out abruptly. I could send you or post a short clip if you like. Jim

jd007 - I have the same non-engine sound (from the plane you're filming from) issue during playback of an ah film.  Thought it was just a "feature" of ahfilm.  I'll post a question in the tech support forum to see what Skuzzy has to say about it.

Thanks I thought I was going mad lol the strange thing is like I say it comes on for a split second also the other night I was up with lancs and a friend in a p51 flew in between the formation. It looked so neat I filmed it. Whwen I viewed it I had all the sound ???? I have been told things like if you use a headset the ah film programme will use the headset if it uses a usb connection as the default. But I have unplugged it and it makes no difference. I even altered my settings to make the card default not the headset...same result. I have emailed skuzzy but he is away at the moment. If I get an answer I will post it. I guess what I find really strange is that no one else has posted or reported this . Maybe they have fixed it themselves.

The Plane in the film view that the film was recorded from never has made engine noise.  If you want just go to your sound folder in AH and edit it in to your film.  Just make a loop.... or get other sounds, some are better, it makes your film have a little more ummmph.

Hey guys I have sent pyro and skuzzy a short clip showing them my problem. Heres what pyro wrote :

Hi Jim,
I'm not sure we're talking about the same thing.  Are you talking about Aces High Films that are played in the film viewer or are you talking about AVI's that are exported from the film viewer?
If you're just talking about engine sounds not working in the AH film viewer, they most definitely should.  I've watched several films today and they all had the engine sound.  Are you using custom sounds or default sounds?
Personally I agree ,,, why would you be able to hear and record every internal and external sound other than the engine running ?????
why would you think that is normal ????
Has it always been that way for you guys ???

Interesting reply from pyro jd007.  So it's not supposed to be a "feature" that your engine sound isn't heard from the recorded aircraft.

I wonder if the problem is related to using custom sound.  I have Waffle's sound pack loaded.  Is that the problem?  Maybe someone from HTC can weigh in?

I've posted a thread in the tech support forum.  I'm going to copy your reply from Pyro into that thread and see if we get any answers that rout as well.

EDIT:  BTW - here's the tech support thread I've opened up...

Never heard any sound from the plane i recorded in either. Never knew it wasnt supposed to be that way.

Waffle Pack here as well. I also have the internal engine sound lowered to 50% in game settings.

Yes its really strange. I guess the real mystery to me is why no one questioned it before ??? I mean if you hear all the sounds while playing and recording why would anyone assume its normal for the programme to delete one sound and leave all the others. ??? maybe it is because we use custom sounds...that would be easy to try out though...anyway as soon as I get an answer from htc ( I sent them a couple of film clips ) I will let you guys know. Jim.

looked at them but I didn't know whether those were edited clips or not.  I'm sorry I understand now, your initial email confused me when you were talking about editing and fraps and all that.  I'll make sure there's an entry for it in our bugs list so that we can get it fixed.  Thanks.

So I guess we are supposed to hear the engine noises. Thanks Doug and I look foreward to this being fixed. Jim
