Lame Dive Bombing Buff
« on: August 26, 2006, 08:55:57 AM »
Last night I was the Allied CiC and worked hard on our battlplan. I knew it was going to be hard, as our planeset handicapped us.

Grip #1
I believe our side put up a good defence and I can't say enough for the effort everyone put in. I guess this is why i'm so upset about the last Axis JU-88 making a lame suicide dive from 20k+ feet, after all his buddies missed our cruiser. I manuvered the fleet in an attempt to avoid this, but no amount of turning will stop a verticle suicide drop no more then 3k above the fleet. If it was a JU-87 I wouldn't have anything to say, i'd probably praise him for a nice drop. His plane blew up even before the bombs hit, and it was no more then 3 minutes before the end of the time limit for hitting the targets. WTG Tards... A whine has been recorded. :furious

Grip #2
This guy crashes two times, goes on to shoot kermit down, then destroy a number of objects at our field.  Now if it was just shooting kermit down I wouldn't mind, but the field object should be recalled. :D

TANK is one of my guys. If you look at the logs closely you will see all the JU88 pilots (but a new pilot of ours) augerd in the first few min. None of us had our drones. I asked Knuckles about it (he was busy) and he finally gave enabled the drones. We nosed down and took off again. He did not do anything wrong.

ok, thx for your reply daddog. I saw the other crashes and wasn't sure if they were due to CTD's or other. I was worried about this one in particular due to the time between crashes. :aok

If he in fact did do it 3 min before the end of frame I could see that as an issue because there was no way he could get home, in the spirit of the game I think that would be wrong.  However the JU88 is a dive bomber and very effective at it.  With dive brakes deployed it can easily come straigt down from 20k hit its target and fly away.  its awesome.

As I mentioned is another log, the 88s are tough for hurri's to get to but the Bostons are equall tough for the 109Es.  In fact the speed differance between the boston and Emil may even be greater the the speed differance between the 88 and the Hurri, Maybe.  The boston can also be an effective fighter by compairson to the 88.  Though the 88 has manuvering ability is single forward mounted 30cal is just a neusance not a threat.

By the way great work lastnight on your set up .  My group got mauled by your guys but it was fun. :aok

Bostons mixed with Hurricanes is a difficult matchup for the Axis.  The 109's can deal with Hurricanes alone, and Bostons alone, but the two together hurt us last night.  We couldn't run from the bostons, and we couldn't turn with the Hurricanes.  A few more Axis numbers and we would have been ok, but the Allies flew well against us last night.

BTW, did the Gorizia survive?

I was about 2 min away from running out of fuel, and I had been attacking that ju88 for nearly 10min, I ran out of time and patience so I just tried to kill him from his coalt 6 area where I unloaded 1/2 of my ammo on the 1 lead ju88 and was still unable to take any part off.  That's when I lost my wing. :)
Time's fun when you're having flies.

I was under the impression that the the JU 88 failed as a dive bomber.

It was originally designed as a dive/high speed bomber but did not meet expectations.

It was my understanding that it was capable of something near a 60 degree dive (the actual number escapes me) but certainly not a high-speed 90 degree dive.

Like I said, this is just my understanding and I'm not certain of it.
