Hi everyone.

Just started flying here and was wondering if no icon servers exist? or is there somewhere to fly with others with friendly icons only?.

I like the FM of the planes and there are very good pilots here but I find the big neon signs are immersion killers. Also hard to fly smart when you have a big sign over your head making it hard for anyone to miss you.

I was drawn to this sim as a place for realistic flying and there is much to admire but these huge icons seem very arcade to me.

With either local dar or country dar down you would be at a total loss without the icons.

The "huge" icons just compensate the fact that your on screen resolution is not anywhere as fine as the human eye. At the same distances we here in the game do only see a black dot, you could see much more in real life. Type of plane, heading & such. Unless immersion means you would like to feel like a fighter jock with exceptional weak eyesight, the icons are a needed compromise. And as we lack real three-dimensional depth perception due to a flat screen, the distance information is even more important.
But if YOU really want that immersion, you can of course always switch icons to "friendly only" or even "off" using alt-I toggle

I believe, purpose of icons is make easy for ppl to actually fight with others, not sneak behind them.

If you not like to see enemy icons just turn it off

P.S. Thank gods for long icons, inflight radar and radar bars. Flying for hours in attempt to find anybody suck beyond belief.

In the MA, where there are no country-specific planes, (as well as the limited visual information blah blah stuff that Lusche posted), icons are pretty much necessary.

FWIW, you can toggle the icons on and off, as well as change the size of the text in your settings.

It would be hard enough if the countries flew only certain aircrafy with certain markings, but everyone flies everything so you couldnt tell friend from foe.
