Aces High

There goes the siren that warns of the air raid
Then comes the sound of the guns sending flak
Out for the scramble weve got to get airborne
Got to get up for the coming attack.

Jump in the cockpit and start up the engines
Remove all the wheelblocks theres no time to waste
Gathering speed as we head down the runway
Gotta get airborne before its too late.

Running, scrambling, flying
Rolling, turning, diving, going in again
Run, live to fly, fly to live, do or die
Run, live to fly, fly to live. aces high.

Move in to fire at the mainstream of bombers
Let off a sharp burst and then turn away
Roll over, spin round and come in behind them
Move to their blindsides and firing again.

Bandits at 8 oclock move in behind us
Ten me-109s out of the sun
Ascending and turning our spitfires to face them
Heading straight for them I press down my guns

Rolling, turning, diving
Rolling, turning, diving, going in again
Run, live to fly, fly to live, do or die
Run, live to fly, fly to live, aces high.

Was there one of Eddie as a tailgunner or am I just getting confused in my old age?

Awesome thread!

It's great to see those boys back together again.

I think 2 minutes to midnight was their best war song.

The trooper was quite good also. I thank that song must've been an old brit cadence because it sounds strikingly like the airborne ranger cadence.

wow, look at all that spandex!

There was really a lot of good Iron Maiden.. But Aces High was kinda forced... I mean, they just tried to hard to make that work..

For Whom the Bell Tolls, Invaders, Charlotte the Harlot, 22 Acacia Avenue, the list is just endless... And somewhere near the bottom was Aces High.

Aces High is one of the songs that makes me go 'why did I like those guys?' And then I listen to Rime of the Ancient Mariner, 2 minutes to midnight or For whom the bell tolls and I go.  'Oh yeah, they were pretty freakin good".

Oh, and Dave Murray is one of my all time favorite guitarists...

They put on a great stage show at their peak, no matter what they lacked, they had that.... I was there at Long Beach Arena when they recorded Live After Death... God that was fun.
